Those choosing Ledong for a trip can focus on nature around Jiaxi or the Li ceramic tradition in Baoqiu. Jiaxi is known for its rainforest and water landscapes, while Baoqiu is associated with crafts and cultural transmission. The Ledong Cultural Center also offers a distinct perspective on culture and traditional handicrafts.

Nature and rainforest around Jiaxi

The Jiaxi Nature Reserve is a provincial-level state-protected forest ecosystem reserve. It protects tropical seasonal rainforest and rare wild animals and plants. The Jiaxi Ridge near Jiaxi Village is included in the reserve. Jiaxi also preserves a landscape characteristic of tropical primary rainforest.

In Jiaxi Village, located in Baoyou Town, the landscape is shaped by tropical rainforest, streams, ponds, and waterfalls. The area is suitable for forest exploration and ecological nature tourism. The reserve information focuses on the forest and rare species; the landscape description complements this perspective with streams and bodies of water. Together, habitat and landscape represent different aspects of Jiaxi’s natural environment.

Li ceramics and handicrafts in Baoqiu

Baoqiu has a tradition of making Li ceramics. 紫金陶 ceramics (Purple-Gold ceramics) have attracted more than 80 ceramic artists from different parts of China. They create works there that combine elements of Li culture with pottery techniques. The focus is therefore on both a local ceramic tradition and contemporary artistic creation.

A 2024 description presents the Fuan Guiyuanju Shared Farm in Baoqiu as an integrated complex combining pottery experiences, cultural transmission, and industrial development. The Baoqiu Pottery Garden, also described in 2024, brings together accommodation, artistic work, ceramic exhibitions, and pottery experiences. It was reported to have 104 guest rooms, 22 artist studios, and exhibition and ceramic-making areas. If you are considering the Pottery Garden as accommodation, check availability for your travel dates in advance.

A travel notice from January 2025 describes an activity for visitors during the Spring Festival period: visitors could visit an area focused on ceramic culture and try pottery. The activity combined Li ceramic culture with traditional techniques from Chinese ceramic and porcelain traditions. The notice refers to the festival period; check whether the activity is scheduled for your dates before making specific plans.

Cultural center and regional orientation

The Ledong Cultural Center combines a cultural center, library, and museum and is a cultural landmark in Ledong’s administrative center. In September 2024, it was described as completed and operational. On May 27, an event for students and visitors was held at the Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum on the first floor. Exhibits included Li dyeing, weaving, and embroidery techniques, Miao embroidery, Li paper-cutting, Li ceramics, and rattan and bamboo weaving. The event showcased a broader range of crafts than the ceramic-focused offerings in Baoqiu.

Another point of reference is Jiaxi Tourism Road. Completed at the end of 2016, it connects Baoyou Town with Jiaxi Ridge. Red Water Valley and Li cultural resources are also located along the road. These named places and themes help travelers connect their nature and cultural interests with specific points of reference when planning a trip to Ledong.
