Jiuquan offers a variety of options for a stay: an urban focus in the old town, and cultural, landscape, and agricultural attractions in the surrounding area. Han-Tang Food Street brings together several uses, while the garden, spring, and rural attractions offer different perspectives. The range of themes therefore extends from a single street in the city center to extensive cultural and landscape sites.

Han-Tang Food Street in the Old Town

Han-Tang Food Street is located in the center of Jiuquan’s old town and comprises four street sections. It brings together regional cuisine, tourist leisure activities, cultural entertainment, and shopping. A 2024 official tourism website reports 178 operating businesses.

Han Garden and the Spring as Historical Themes

Nearby is è„żæ±‰é…’æł‰èƒœèżč, the only fully preserved Han-era garden complex in the Hexi Corridor. The complex covers 270,000 square meters and contains a natural lake covering 50,000 square meters. It is divided into a historical and cultural area, a mountain and lake area, and a recreation and leisure area. Alongside its Han-era significance, these three areas give the site clearly defined landscape and recreational dimensions.

The scale differs considerably: Food Street comprises four street sections, while the garden complex covers 270,000 square meters and has three functional zones. This is a concrete distinction for orientation between an urban street ensemble and an extensive cultural site with landscape and recreational areas.

Another historical point of reference is the old spring of Jiuquan. It is regarded as evidence of the development of the Western Regions and territorial expansion under the Han dynasty; it is said to be more than 2,100 years old. Unlike the garden complex, the focus here is on the spring’s historical interpretation and its attributed age.

Rural Attractions and Folk Culture

East of Jiuquan’s urban area, in Yongjiu Village in Quanhuzhen Township and within the core area of the Quanhuwan Agricultural Demonstration Zone, lies Longdesheng Eco-Agriculture Park. Its offerings include rural cuisine, children’s entertainment, outdoor barbecuing and fishing, agricultural learning experiences, military summer camps, fruit and vegetable picking, RV camping, and a petting zoo. The park serves as a study-trip base for students from Jiuquan. Unlike Food Street, whose offerings are concentrated in the old town center, Longdesheng combines agricultural learning and harvesting activities with outdoor recreation.

Suyun Xiangzhuang is a folk-culture estate built from local earth, wood, and stone using traditional Chinese construction methods. Its folk museum houses more than 5,000 exhibits that visitors can view. The estate therefore combines architectural style and a collection; unlike the garden complex, with its landscape and recreational areas, Suyun Xiangzhuang centers on a folk-culture estate.
