In L'Isle Verte, protected coastal habitats, guided hikes and historic sites come together. This gives you two clear themes to consider when planning your trip: nature and trails, or buildings and heritage. First, consider which focus matters more to you during your stay; the municipality offers specific options for both.

Marshland and Hiking Trails

The Réserve nationale de faune de la Baie-de-L’Isle-Verte protects tidal marshes characterized by Spartina, as well as coastal habitats that are important to waterfowl. Guided hikes are offered in the reserve. It is therefore a destination in its own right for travellers who want to discover the landscape on a guided tour.

Parc côtier Kiskotuk also offers a choice of trail lengths. In the Roitelets sector, there is an easy 1.4-kilometre trail with a lookout point. The easy Sentier de la Spartine is 0.8 kilometres long, and the equally easy Sentier de la Digue is one kilometre long. Comparing the distances, Sentier de la Spartine is the shortest; the three trails range from 0.8 to 1.4 kilometres. Seasonal access to the trails is listed as running from June to October.

Buildings and Heritage

Maison Louis-Bertrand is a heritage-listed building and is recognized as a National Historic Site of Canada. Cour de circuit, the former courthouse, serves as an interpretation centre and hosts seasonal exhibitions. The two sites offer different ways to explore local heritage: a recognized historic building and a place where exhibitions help interpret the past.

The Maison Narcisse-Bertrand site is designated a heritage site. Its features include its elevated setting and views of the Rivière Verte and the St. Lawrence River. Église La-Décollation-de-Saint-Jean-Baptiste is classified by the Conseil du patrimoine religieux du Québec as an exceptional architectural work. The Circuit patrimonial de L'Isle-Verte includes 19 historic sites for visitors and places the individual buildings within a broader thematic context.

More Activities and Visitor Information

Parc Samuel-Côté offers a different focus: it has play structures for children and a BMX track. The park's season is listed as running from May to October. Alongside historic sites and trails, it offers play and BMX activities to choose from if these are more central to your plans.

The tourist kiosk and park at the Rivière Verte is a place to get information about activities and attractions in the municipality; its season runs from June to September. When choosing activities, it is easy to distinguish between the different options: guided hikes in the Réserve, easy trails of varying lengths in Parc côtier Kiskotuk, and historic buildings, exhibitions and architectural heritage. This lets you decide what to focus on during your stay without trying to fit every theme into the same visit.
