Caledonia is a community on the Canadian Heritage Grand River. Outdoor experiences along the river, local history and seasonal events give this destination a range of highlights. You can plan your stay around the scenery, culture or a specific market day.
Trails along the Grand River
The Rotary Riverside Trail is six kilometres long, runs away from roads and follows the Grand River. LaFortune Park has nature trails and access to the river. For outdoor activities, you can choose between a river route with a specified distance and park trails with river access.
History at several sites
At the Edinburgh Square Heritage & Cultural Centre, a permanent exhibition explores gypsum mining along the Grand River. Built in 1857, the building was formerly Caledonia’s town hall and jail. The exhibition and the building’s former use offer different insights into the community’s history. The Grand Trunk Railway Station is a historic and cultural landmark dating from 1908.
Farmers’ market and Caledonia Fair
The Caledonia Farmers Market takes place every Thursday from May to December at Caledonia Baptist Church, 401 Argyle St. S. If you want to plan a visit to the market, both the day of the week and the seasonal timeframe are important. The Caledonia Fair follows a different schedule: it takes place on the fourth weekend after Labour Day. Check the dates for the specific year of your trip before travelling.
Splash pad and swimming pool
Caledonia Kinsmen Park has a swimming pool and a splash pad. As seasonal operations may change, please check the latest information if either of these amenities is important to your travel plans.
