A clear date to plan around in Saint-André is the Foire agricole: it takes place every year in August and includes, among other things, a wheelbarrow race.

Saint-André: August Fair, Farmland and Trails

The Foire agricole de Saint-André also includes a mini-zoo with farm animals and a crafts exhibition. The fair brings together competition, agriculture and crafts. If the fair is a reason for your trip, plan for August and check the specific date of the event in advance.

The farmland in Saint-André is considered some of the most attractive and productive in the region. Saint-André (Grand Falls) also has hiking trails for seasonal outdoor recreation. These are different aspects to consider when planning your trip: the fair as an annual event and the trails as a seasonal outdoor option. Check whether trail access works for your travel dates.

The Dôme de Saint-André can be reserved for private use. A private reservation costs CAD 50 per hour, plus taxes; the facility is currently closed for the season. As reservation terms may change, confirm the price and availability before making specific plans.

Madawaska County: History and Nature on a Wider Scale

Madawaska County provides a wider regional setting for exploring other cultural and natural attractions. In Saint-François, Ledges… Place des Pionniers is a scale replica of the former village of Saint-François, formerly Ledges. The buildings represented include a residence, a church, a farm, a post office, a school and a general store. A path winds among historic buildings dedicated to the pioneers of the Saint-François District.

The history of blacksmithing is also represented there: the Forge Jos B. Michaud in Saint-François was built in 1894 and operated for at least 100 years before passing to the blacksmith’s son. The Musée de la Forge Jos B. Michaud offers insights into blacksmithing through its tools and the story of its former owner, Joseph B. Michaud. In Saint-Basile, the Cyr Historical House was built by Alexis Cyr between 1825 and 1830; it is considered the oldest house in Madawaska County. History enthusiasts can explore two different time spans: the Cyr Historical House was built between 1825 and 1830, while the Forge Jos B. Michaud operated for at least 100 years.

For nature and outdoor activities, the nature park in the Ward of Saint-François is a place for family picnics and offers a view of the Saint John River. Canoeing, kayaking and fishing are among the listed activities at Lac Unique and Lac Glazier. These destinations complement the hiking trails in Saint-André with additional scenic and active pursuits in the wider destination of Madawaska County.
