Sun Peaks combines mountain sports with trails for a range of activities and seasonal village offerings. When planning your trip, the main consideration is whether you want to focus on skiing and snowshoeing, hiking and cycling routes, or village life. The Farmers’ Market takes place during the summer months; snowshoeing is a seasonal winter activity.
Winter activities on the mountain
The ski terrain covers 4,400 acres and spans Tod Mountain, Sundance Mountain and Mount Morrisey. The extensive snowshoe trail network offers guided tours and options for independent outings. Groomed and track-set cross-country ski trails lead directly from the village and many accommodations. If you’d like to include cross-country skiing in your stay, this direct connection to the village and accommodations is a helpful point of reference.
Hiking and cycling
Sun Peaks’ 22 hiking trails range from leisurely walks to challenging summit hikes. Hikes can start right in the village. Family-friendly valley trails connect the residential areas of the Sun Peaks community; the village also has a trail reserved exclusively for pedestrians. This means you’ll find both routes between residential areas and hiking options for a wide range of ability levels.
For cycling, the Sun Peaks Bike Park offers a different scale: it spans two mountains and two chairlifts and includes more than 89 kilometres of trails and 595 metres of lift-served vertical. Operating details may vary by season. Mount Morrisey also has a cross-country trail network that you can access under your own power. These two cycling options differ both in their stated extent and in how they’re accessed.
Golf and seasonal village life
Golf is also part of the offering: Sun Peaks is home to British Columbia’s highest-elevation 18-hole golf course. The greens sit at 1,200 metres above sea level, and the highest tee is at 1,333 metres.
A Farmers’ Market takes place in the village of Sun Peaks during the summer months. Local farmers, ranchers and artisans offer sustainable fruit and vegetables, local meat, seafood, crafts and other products. The market adds a seasonal village event to the mountain activities. When choosing your dates, the distinction between this summer offering and the winter skiing and snowshoeing options is particularly relevant.
For live music, the Sun Peaks Centre is a covered outdoor stage. Other outings take you on horseback: Sun Peaks Stables offers small-group trail rides suitable for everyone from beginners to advanced riders; advance booking is required. Seasonal horse-drawn sleigh rides proceed at a leisurely pace, first through the village, then through open areas with views of the valley and mountains, and finally along a gentle ski run back. Mountain Man Dog Sled & Snowmobile Adventures also offers dog-sled tours in Sun Peaks.
