Logan Lake is a picturesque town in the Highland Valley at an elevation of 1,067 metres. Forested, gently rolling hills, along with quiet lakes and rivers, define the surrounding area. Several distinct outdoor activities are at the heart of what the area offers: a network of recreation trails, cross-country ski trails, a golf course and fishing at a trout lake. When planning your trip, it’s worth considering trail character and usage conditions as well as length.

Recreation Trails and Cross-Country Skiing

The Highland Valley Outdoor Association maintains the HVOA Trail Network in Logan Lake, with 36 kilometres of recreation trails. It includes flowing sections and technically challenging features; trailheads are located in Logan Lake. The total length describes the network, while the trail features distinguish its different sections. The network therefore combines different trail characters; the 36 kilometres indicate its overall extent, not a uniform type of trail.

The cross-country ski trail system also spans 36 kilometres. This means there are two networks of the same total length but designed for different uses: the HVOA Trail Network’s recreation trails and trails for cross-country skiing. Two kilometres of the ski trails are lit and designated for night skiing. The shared kilometre figure provides a common measure, but trails and ski trails are not the same offering. The lit two kilometres are part of the ski trail system’s 36 kilometres; they are not additional.

Golf and Trout Lake

Meadow Creek Golf Course is a challenging nine-hole course with hilly terrain, a distinctive dogleg and a creek. Unlike the recreation trails or ski trails, it is not a network measured in kilometres, but a single course. The nine holes and the listed terrain features offer different points of reference: golf is a distinct activity alongside the trail and ski trail offerings.

Logan Lake is a 12-hectare trout lake. Two aerators, a spawning channel and fish stocking contribute to a large trout population. Stocking is therefore not the only factor cited as contributing to this population: the aerators and spawning channel also play a role. There are two fishing docks at the lake; only electric motors are permitted on the water. The information about the fish population and lake size describes the lake, while the docks and motor rule are specific conditions for its use.

The figures cannot be compared as a simple ranking: 36 kilometres refers to network lengths, nine holes to the golf course and 12 hectares to the lake’s area. For choosing between them, it is more useful to consider what type of activity you have planned and which specific conditions matter.

Campground as an Accommodation Option

Logan Lake Municipal Campground has 70 campsites. Facilities include washrooms and hot showers; for fishing and boating, there is a fish-cleaning station, free loaner fishing rods and a boat launch. The boat launch is for boats with electric motors only; only electric motors are also permitted on Logan Lake itself. If you include the campground in your accommodation plans, you can consider the number of campsites, facilities and fishing or boating amenities as separate points of comparison.
