Sicamous by the Water and on Foot
Sicamous lies where Shuswap Lake and Mara Lake meet. The town offers travelers a range of activities: trails along the Eagle River, a pump track, activities on Shuswap Lake, and insights into local history. You can tailor your stay to your interests—whether you mainly want to get out on the water, enjoy walking trails, try a pump track, or learn more about Sicamous and the Eagle Valley.
At Sicamous River Front Nature Park, a 2-kilometre, family-friendly walking trail winds through a poplar forest along the Eagle River. At the same park, you can experience local wildlife and watch the river. If you want to combine a walk with wildlife viewing, you can do both at this named location.
The Old Sicamous Highway offers a different perspective on the landscape. For about 6 kilometres, it follows the historic route of the former highway and offers views of Shuswap Lake. When planning, it is worth distinguishing between the two distances: the 2 kilometres refer to the walking trail in the nature park, while the approximately 6 kilometres refer to the historic highway route. Construction work may affect access, so check current conditions before your visit.
Sicamous is home to a competition-grade Velosolutions pump track in Finlayson Park. Alongside the main track, there is a separate children’s pump track for first-time riders. For a visit with children, this distinction is clear: the dedicated children’s track is designed for first attempts, while the facility also includes a competition-grade main track.
Water Activities and Main Street Landing
Sicamous Beach Park has a sheltered swimming area and a water playground for children. Houseboating is also one of the activities available in Sicamous. On Shuswap Lake, the town also recommends recreational boating, jet skiing, kayaking and canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, swimming, water skiing, wakeboarding, fishing, and windsurfing. The options range from boating and paddling to swimming, fishing, and windsurfing.
At the end of Main Street, Main Street Landing offers a public boat launch for day use; walking trails are also available there. This makes it easy to distinguish the lakeside amenities from the trails in the nature park: Main Street Landing combines a boat launch and walking trails at its own named location, while the trail in the nature park runs through a poplar forest along the Eagle River.
Local History Along the Channel
The Sicamous Heritage Walking Tour focuses on the east side of the Channel. There, Sicamous’s original main street, Finlayson Street, meets the Channel at Young Crescent and Riverside Avenue. The named streets and the Channel pinpoint the historical setting.
The Sicamous & District Museum & Historical Society presents the diverse history of Sicamous and the Eagle Valley through artifacts, photographs, digital media, and text. While the walking tour focuses on a specific location at Finlayson Street and the Channel, the museum’s exhibits also cover the Eagle Valley and use several interpretive formats. This offers different ways to explore history: a tour with precise geographic reference and an exhibition featuring objects, photographs, digital media, and text.
