The 108 Mile Heritage Site is at the northern entrance to 108 Mile Ranch, on Highway 97, halfway between 100 Mile House and Lac La Hache in British Columbia’s Cariboo region. Several themes come together here to help you plan your trip: history, lakes and trails, golf, and winter sports. You can first decide what you want your stay to focus on, then tailor your search for accommodation accordingly.
History and local character
The 108 Mile Heritage Site includes 13 buildings dating from the early 1860s to the 20th century. One striking example is the 160-foot-long log barn, built in 1908 and considered the largest surviving log structure of its kind in Canada. The buildings give your visit a clear historical focus; the barn stands out for its length and its distinctive significance.
The greenbelt areas of the 108 Mile Ranch community also shape its character. They are used in much the same way as a public park. This offers another perspective on the area alongside the historic site: the Heritage Site’s buildings on one hand, and the community greenbelt areas on the other.
Outdoors by the lakes and on the trails
At 108 and Sepa Lakes, the accessible trails form a continuous route of about 7 kilometres with a gentle gradient. For a break, there are two accessible washrooms, picnic tables at three locations, and ten rest areas with benches. As facilities and trail conditions can change, it’s best to confirm the details and current conditions before your visit.
A variety of wildlife and waterfowl species can be spotted on the accessible trails. This distinguishes the activities around the lakes: the trails focus on walking and possible nature sightings, while the beaches are associated with swimming and picnicking.
The trail options extend beyond this lakeside route: more than 100 kilometres of trails run through the area surrounding 108 Mile Ranch, east of Highway 97, and are accessible via tunnels. The scale varies, from the approximately 7-kilometre accessible route by the lakes to the extensive trail network in the surrounding area. Visitors can hike or cycle up to the 108 Lookout, at an elevation of 1,005 metres, on skis or a mountain bike.
Golf and winter activities
108 Mile Ranch also has an 18-hole golf course overlooking a lake. In winter, visitors can go cross-country skiing across more than 20,000 acres of terrain, with well-groomed trails and scenic views. This adds two different activities to the options: golf on a course with lake views and cross-country skiing on expansive terrain with groomed trails.
Choose accommodation to suit your priorities
Then compare the location and availability of specific vacation rentals with your planned stay. This way, you can choose accommodation based on the experiences that matter to you in 108 Mile Ranch, rather than assuming you have a particular itinerary.
