Bridge Lake brings together several travel interests: time on the water, trails through forest and wetlands, and the community’s historical connections. The lake shapes more than just the landscape; it also offers a range of activities. For planning, it’s worth organizing the options by focus: water sports, wildlife watching, hiking or horseback riding, and a cultural event in July.

At the lake: protected shorelines and water sports

Bridge Lake Park includes a small campground at the southern end of Bridge Lake, near the community of the same name. The park protects a large stretch of undeveloped shoreline and all but one of the lake’s islands. Protected shoreline areas and activities on the water are therefore two distinct aspects of the same setting.

Canoeing and kayaking are popular on Bridge Lake; swimming and boating are also popular along the shore. Water skiing is another option, and Bridge Lake Park has a boat launch. Rainbow trout, lake trout, and burbot are found in the lake. If you plan to go boating or water skiing, check the applicable conditions and regulations in advance.

Forest, wildlife, and trails

At Bridge Lake Park, overgrown former logging and skid roads are used for hiking, wildlife watching, and horseback riding. Bridge Lake and the surrounding Douglas fir and spruce stands provide habitat for numerous bird species as well as black bears, foxes, coyotes, mule deer, mink, and river otters. There are also several bald eagle nests and active beaver colonies.

The approximately one-kilometre-long Interlakes Pioneer Heritage Trail has a compacted gravel surface. It leads from the Interlakes Community Complex, past a wetland and through a forest, to the Roe Lake Rodeo Grounds.

At 500 metres, the Low Mobility Wolf Trail is about half the length of the approximately one-kilometre-long Interlakes Pioneer Heritage Trail. It starts at the Bridge Lake Ice Caves parking lot and leads to two viewing platforms overlooking the Ice Caves and Bridge Lake. One of the platforms is wheelchair accessible; check accessibility and trail conditions before your visit.

Length isn’t the only factor to compare: the Interlakes Trail leads from a named starting point to a destination, passing through wetlands and forest, while the Wolf Trail focuses on its viewpoints. These offer a route connecting different landscapes and a short trail centered on scenic overlooks.

Ice Caves and local history

Along the shoreline of Bridge Lake, caves and rock crevices hold ice that forms year-round as annual snowfall melts and refreezes.

The small community of Bridge Lake was originally located along the historic Fur Brigade Trail. The annual Bridge Lake Rodeo takes place in July. If you want to plan your trip around it, check the specific dates and program for your travel year.
