The municipality of Avren combines protected nature, cultural attractions and the Black Sea coast. Its places and themes offer different ways to explore, without requiring a fixed itinerary.

Nature, Wetlands and Coast

The protected area “Kamchiya” includes land in the villages of Bliznatsi, Dabravino, Krusha, Kitka, Ravna Gora and Sadovo in the municipality of Avren. It protects riparian forests, mixed riverbank forests and Pannonian forests. Several types of woodland are therefore part of the municipality’s natural attractions.

Visitors can hike along marked trails in Kamchia Reserve. The reserve covers 842.1 hectares, and 258 bird species have been recorded in the area. This variety of species adds an ornithological dimension to the natural attractions, while the marked trails offer a practical way to explore on foot.

Another landscape attraction is the protected area “Limana” in the Pasha Dere landscape. It is a coastal liman and a natural wetland with rare plants and water-loving birds. Here, the focus is on wetlands and plant and bird life. The “Kamchiya” holiday complex extends over 5,900 decares along the municipality of Avren’s 20-kilometre Black Sea coast. This adds a distinct coastal element to the forests and wetlands.

Culture in Tsarevtsi and Local Traditions

In Tsarevtsi, the “Sv.sv.Konstantini Elena” museum complex has a collection of ethnographic exhibits. At the “Tsarkva – uchilishte” museum complex, tourists can watch the carpet-weaving process. If you plan to visit for this experience, check in advance whether visits are currently possible.

The traditions of Koledari and Lazaruvane continue to be observed in the municipality’s settlements. Together with the ethnographic exhibits and carpet weaving, these customs offer several distinct ways to explore Avren’s culture. They can help you decide whether you are more interested in handicrafts, local traditions or collections.

Local cuisine is also part of the picture: Han “Hadzhi Kolyo” in Priseltsi is a complex of restored old houses where guests can enjoy traditional Bulgarian dishes. Before visiting, check whether food service is currently available.

Observatory, Educational Trail and Park

Avren is home to an astronomical base observatory. Various astronomy clubs from Varna regularly held observations there. The “Pat kam zvezdite” educational trail was established in Avren in 2006. The “Kapla” tourist park complex also opened in Avren on 17 July 2025. These places add astronomy, an educational trail and a park complex to the nature and culture attractions.

Choose Hotels in Avren Based on Your Travel Interests

If hiking and scenery are your priorities, you can consider Kamchia Reserve and the “Limana” wetland. For cultural interests, the exhibits in Tsarevtsi, carpet weaving and ongoing local traditions can help guide your choice. The municipality’s coastal setting is another possible focus.

This way, you can choose accommodation based on what interests you most about Avren. If you are visiting for a specific experience, such as watching carpet weaving or having a meal at Han “Hadzhi Kolyo”, it is worth checking in advance whether the visit or food service is available.
