For a trip to Antonovo, there are several interests to consider: historic architecture, art, activities by the water, and excursions in hilly landscapes. The Roman Bridge, the Yanaki Manasiev House Museum and the Yastrebino Reservoir each represent a distinct focus. The themes you prioritize shape the character of your stay and make it easier to choose suitable reasons to travel.
Roman Bridge: Design and Visit Planning
The Roman Bridge is an important architectural and historical monument over the Stara Reka. It has six semicircular arches and is located seven kilometers from the village of Stevrek. It is also part of the “Sredna Yantra” ecozone, which extends across the municipalities of Antonovo, Strazhitsa and Zlataritsa. The bridge is located seven kilometers from the village of Stevrek and is part of the “Sredna Yantra” ecozone.
A description from 2019 states that the Roman Bridge can only be accessed on foot with a local guide, because the terrain is difficult to access. Clarify local conditions before setting out and also check the condition of the bridge.
Art and Exhibition
The Yanaki Manasiev House Museum and the art gallery in Bozhitsa feature a permanent exhibition of the artist’s works. The house museum displays drawings, sketches, oil paintings and personal belongings. This range makes the museum a different cultural stop from the Roman Bridge: here the focus is on art and personal belongings, while there it is on a historic structure. Opening arrangements may change; check current visiting options before your visit.
Water, Fishing and Landscape
There are beach areas at Yastrebino Reservoir, as well as opportunities for fishing and water sports. The hilly area along the Golyama Reka offers excursions in almost untouched nature and opportunities for fishing too. Fishing is therefore an option at both places; at the reservoir, beach areas and water sports are additional options, while at the Golyama Reka, nature excursions in the hilly area are available.
The Pirineshki-Dzhendem Waterfall is 34 meters high. A tourism report from 2022 describes it as easily accessible, signposted and maintained. Check its condition on site before firmly planning your visit.
Cultural Events and Reservations
According to local tradition, the traditional Antonovo fair takes place in June. If you want the fair to determine your travel dates, check the current event dates in advance. The Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God in Stevrek is also one of the stops on the Antonovo–Stevrek tourist route. The planning considerations differ: for the fair, the event date matters; for the church, the Antonovo–Stevrek route provides the thematic connection.
The base of the Regional STEM Center is located in Yastrebino, and reservations are possible. If the center is of interest to you, check this option in advance.
