With the St. Nedelya Eco-Trail, Presoka offers a hike with clearly defined measurements: the route is 12 kilometers long, takes about three hours, and covers around 400 meters of elevation gain. Allow extra time in your day plan for breaks and travel to and from the trail. If you prefer cycling, you can choose the 8-kilometer Zlatograd–St. Nedelya–Startsevo–White Stones route as a separate option. This gives you a choice between a hike with elevation gain and a shorter cycling route as distinct activities.

Hiking the St. Nedelya Eco-Trail

The Eco-Trail is marked in blue and also has wooden signs. Along the way, it passes a fountain with a rest area and a bivouac site; it also passes the protected structure known as the “Bunker” and a panoramic viewpoint. The trail crosses the road to Presoka and ends at Mount St. Nedelya, which is located in Presoka and has a summit elevation of 865 meters. A fortress stands on the summit and is believed to be about 300 years old.

Mountain huts and cultural attractions

Presoka has mountain huts associated with the State Forestry, Belotex AD, and Villa Elit. If you are considering a hut as an overnight base, check directly in advance whether it is available for your dates and what booking options are available. This lets you plan accommodation around your tour without treating the hike itself as an overnight stay.

The White Stones site is near Presoka. It contains a sanctuary dedicated to the sun god. In Zlatograd, the Ethnographic Area Complex is another cultural attraction: as an open-air museum, it includes an ethnographic museum, craft workshops, and exhibits on water technology. Three water installations are in operation at Vuntsov’s Mill. The cultural attractions are distinct: White Stones is home to a sun-god sanctuary, while Zlatograd has an open-air ethnographic museum.

The complex is open year-round and admission is charged. Check the current conditions before your visit. Bulgarian holidays and customs are presented there in a traditional style; the dates of individual celebrations may vary. The tourist offer associated with the area also includes hotels, guesthouses, and restaurants. These establishments are not necessarily located within the complex itself, so check their location and availability in advance.

Nature in Zlatograd Municipality

You can also explore the region’s natural environment if you plan to travel beyond Presoka. Rare plants in Zlatograd Municipality include wild orchids, spring snowflake, holly, mountain snowdrop, and Rhodope podrumiche. The municipality’s highland fauna also includes rare birds, reptiles, and amphibians. These natural features complement the specific route to Mount St. Nedelya with a broader perspective on the municipality.
