Stamboliyski offers two distinct points of reference for planning a trip: the Sofia–Plovdiv–Svilengrad railway line runs through the town, and there is an ecopark next to the N. Y. Vaptsarov Centre. This makes it possible to choose between a specific visit to the park and taking in the landscape and history of the municipality.
Ecopark and Things to Do in Town
The ecopark combines activities with areas for taking a break. Its main attractions include a zip line and a tower. Swings, slides and trampolines complement the climbing and jumping area. A description dated 26 May 2026 mentions more than 20 facilities in the park. Shaded tables and benches are suitable for a picnic; parking is also available.
A mini-golf course is located right next to the ecopark. Check whether it is open before visiting. The park’s different offerings can be combined in your day’s plans as exercise, play and a shared break, without the need for a longer outing.
Landscape Across the Municipality
The eastern slopes of the Besapara Ridge lie in the western part of Stamboliyski Municipality and are considered to be of interest to visitors. The Besapara Hills are rounded marble hills arranged in four rows. Visitors can experience Stamboliyski on two levels: through sights in the town and through the municipal landscape, which includes the Besapara Hills.
The Maritsa is also part of the municipality’s landscape and is one of the main waterways flowing through its territory. Another regional landmark is the ancient Via Militaris, also known as the Via Diagonalis. Its route crosses Stamboliyski Municipality from the land of Trivoditsi through the town of Stamboliyski towards Plovdiv. South of Trivoditsi, a preserved section is designated as an immovable archaeological cultural asset of national significance.
Archaeological Evidence
Near Novo Selo, the medieval fortress and settlement in the Baba locality are registered archaeological sites. In the Batalii locality near Novo Selo is also burial mound No. 10. It is part of a necropolis of 30 similar structures, established in the 8th century BC. The mound is about 13 to 14 metres high and has a circumference of approximately 500 metres.
Regional History and Flavours
In 1894, the first kilogram of red pepper in Bulgaria was ground at Alexander Dimitrov’s mill in Kurtovo Konare. A Bulgarian variety bears the name Kurtovska Kapia: it is a traditional Kapia-type pepper, suitable for growing outdoors, eating fresh and processing. Its listed uses include roasting, pickling, purées and lyutenitsa.
Fruit varieties also tell the story of the region. The Red Kurtovka peach was selected at Krichim Palace in the late 1930s and later spread to the homes of Kurtovo Konare. Kurtovka is a local apple variety from Kurtovo Konare, named after the town. The Kurtovo Konare Festival takes place every year for three days in the second week of September; exact dates and the programme vary from year to year. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the latest festival dates.
Nature in the Municipality
The Krichim State Hunting Enterprise is located in Kurtovo Konare on the Vacha River terrace. Its protected area includes a 20.6-hectare park with an extensive collection of ornamental plants, including magnolias, Japanese cherries and various peony species. Fallow deer, mouflons, wild turkeys and pheasants also live on the enterprise’s grounds. Along with the Besapara Hills and the ecopark in Stamboliyski, the municipality’s natural attractions include the ornamental plant park of the Krichim enterprise and the wildlife in its area.
