In Krichim, nature, outdoor activities and culture can each be a different focus of your stay. These include the Koznitsa Protected Area and the Izgoryaloto Gyune Reserve, the 12 km Krichim–Chereshovo Ecotrail, fishing-related recreation by the river and reservoir, as well as a monastery and two fortresses. To help you choose, consider the specific differences: a protected natural area, a route with named start and end points, activities by the water, and cultural destinations with their own visiting conditions.

Nature and Conservation

Krichim Municipality includes the Koznitsa Protected Area and the maintained Izgoryaloto Gyune Reserve. The reserve lies south of Krichim along the Vacha River and protects a natural population of prickly juniper. Prickly juniper is the specific conservation subject that gives the reserve its natural focus. Access may be subject to conservation restrictions. Before visiting, check the conditions in force and take the protected status into account when planning.

Ecotrail and Recreation by the Water

The Krichim–Chereshovo Ecotrail is 12 km long. It starts at the former mineral baths of Krichim, just before the Monastery of the Nativity of the Mother of God, and ends in Chereshovo. The route is also suitable for cycling. Its start, destination and length provide a concrete framework for choosing. Check the current condition of the trail before setting out. This lets you take both the route length and its current condition into account when planning; its suitability for cycling also offers another option when choosing a tour.

The Vacha River and nearby Krichim Reservoir offer opportunities for fishing-related recreation. The reservoir is about 10 km from the town. Before fishing, check local regulations and access conditions; these are part of planning a visit to the water. Compared with the Ecotrail, the kind of outing changes: there, the focus is on a defined route and its condition, while here it is on the local conditions for fishing. The approximate distance to the reservoir helps you gauge how far this focus is from the town.

Monastery and Fortresses

The Monastery of the Nativity of the Mother of God is about 5 km from Krichim, on the road to Devin, and is considered a cultural monument. Opening hours and visiting arrangements may vary; check them before planning a visit. Two fortresses are also located near Krichim: Malkoto Kale and Golyamoto Kale, also known as Ivankovo. Before visiting, check the actual access to the fortresses locally. The monastery and the fortresses are distinct cultural destinations.

The monastery is closer to Krichim than the reservoir: the approximate distances of 5 and 10 km make it possible to compare the cultural destination and the fishing focus in terms of location. Their visiting conditions differ and should be checked in advance for each.
