Yundola is a mountain resort surrounded by coniferous forests. If you are looking for accommodation, you can plan your stay around the area's main attractions: forest and rock landscapes, hiking trails, ski runs or the chapel in the centre.

Forests, Rocks and Views

Places to visit around Yundola include the Pashovi Skali rock formation and Avramovi Kolibi. A marked forest trail leads from Yundola to Pashovi Skali. The area is a protected natural landmark; its rock formations offer views towards the Rhodope, Rila and Pirin mountains. The trail, rocks and distant views give this outing a clear focus on nature. Avramovi Kolibi is another place to visit in the area.

The landscape is therefore a natural focus for planning your trip. If you enjoy exploring on foot, you can consider the trails and mountain peaks; if you prefer to combine different features of the area, there is also a chapel in the centre and ski runs with lifts. You can treat these as different priorities when choosing accommodation, without combining them into a single outing.

Hiking Destinations and Ski Runs

Hiking routes from Yundola lead to Mount Belmeken in the Rila Mountains and Mount Chernovets in the Western Rhodopes. Belmeken is 2,626 metres high and Chernovets is 1,834 metres high. The two destinations differ both in mountain range and elevation. If you are choosing between them, these details can provide an initial guide.

Yundola also has ski runs with lifts. This means that winter activities are part of the local offerings alongside hiking destinations. If you are planning a stay with the ski runs in mind, check in advance whether the facilities will be operating on your travel dates.

St. Petka Chapel in the Centre

St. Petka Chapel is in the centre of Yundola. It is a place to visit for those exploring holy sites in this part of the Rhodopes. Its feast day is celebrated on 14 October. The chapel was built with the support of the local forestry administration and donors. Thus, alongside forest and hiking destinations, there is also a religious site in the centre of the settlement.

Velingrad as a Wider Travel Destination

In the wider Velingrad destination, six cycling routes start and end in Velingrad; one of them passes through Yundola and Lokvata. This is a different geographical perspective from the hiking routes that start in Yundola and lead to Belmeken and Chernovets: for this cycling route, Velingrad is both the starting point and the endpoint, while the route passes through Yundola.

For a cultural focus in Velingrad, visit the Velingrad Historical Museum. It has four permanent exhibitions: a memorial exhibition about Vela Peeva in her birthplace, the ethnographic exhibition “The Mountains – a Hospitable Home,” an exhibition about painted Easter eggs, and one about bass singer Nikolay Gyaurov. The museum preserves and studies more than 19,000 archaeological finds, objects from everyday life in the past, icons, old printed works, personal belongings and archives of well-known figures, as well as photographs and documents. It also offers tourists a workshop on painting Easter eggs with wax.
