Gorsko Slivovo’s religious buildings include the Orthodox Church of St. George the Victorious, built in 1852, and a mosque dating from 1586. The two buildings point to different historical periods. Gorsko Slivovo hosted the 14th edition of the folklore gathering “Nine Songs from the Spring.” The event rotates annually among nine villages on the Devetashko Plateau; the host village and dates depend on the edition. The gathering showcases the villages’ folklore, traditions, customs and landmarks, and the programme may vary. If you are travelling specifically for the gathering, check the dates for the relevant edition.
Karst, Regional Excursions and Cuisine
The Lulyakata protected area extends across the territories of Gorsko Slivovo and Krushuna. The wooded lilac massif is protected for its distinctive landscape; the designation is dated 10 June 2003. A 2013 description places Gorsko Slivovo in a karst area that forms part of Bulgaria’s Natura 2000 network. If you want to factor protected-area rules into your plans, check current conservation information. For a regional viewpoint, the Roman fortresses of Kaleto and Daran-Baran can be seen from the Krushuna–Karpachevo eco-trail.
A local speciality is “Slancheva turshiya”: garden vegetables are left in jars in the sun for one to two days and then moved to a cool place. Reports from 2025 also mention herbal teas among the local visitor offerings. Horse-riding lessons and boat trips on underground lakes and in caves are also associated with Gorsko Slivovo. If you plan to try these offerings, confirm in advance whether herbal teas are available, what the current horse-riding lesson arrangements are, and, for boat trips, both their availability and the operator.
