Bezmer offers several different reasons to visit: open days at the air force base, an international youth festival, and churches with different histories. When planning, consider whether your visit depends on a specific event date or whether you are mainly interested in architectural history and local culture. Aircraft viewing is limited to event days; the churches and local association activities offer a different perspective on the town’s cultural themes.

Events as a reason to visit

During open days at Bezmer Air Base, visitors were able to see Su-25 fighter aircraft up close. Events featuring this opportunity took place in April 2025 and May 2026. The chance to view the aircraft at close range is limited to such event days. If this is the specific reason you want to visit Bezmer, check in advance whether a suitable date has been announced.

The international youth festival “Tundzha – Creativity and Innovation” offers another reason to visit. The 2025 edition included 30 teams. The festival’s art activities include events for children and guests, who create plaster figures, ceramic pots, and wooden discs. The program thus ranges from shared festival events to hands-on creative activities. If you have a particular activity in mind, check the details for the relevant edition; the program may change from year to year.

Churches and local involvement

St. Sofia Church was built in 1934. The Chapel of the Nativity of the Mother of God was built after 2000 with donations. The two buildings have different historical reference points: a specific construction year for St. Sofia and a later period of construction for the chapel.

The “Zdravets” pensioners’ club is involved in restoring, preserving, and marking the Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God. A municipal recognition proposal from 2026 mentions this work. Alongside the buildings’ histories, efforts to care for a local church are therefore among Bezmer’s cultural themes.

Boat tourism and wine in the wider municipality

In the wider area of Tundzha Municipality, the river stretches Zavoy–Yambol, Tenevo–Konevets, and Konevets–Elhovo are among the first-category boat tourism routes on the Tundzha River. Wine tastings featuring wines from local wineries are also among the visitor attractions there. These add river routes and wine to the youth festival and churches as further topics to consider when planning a trip. These activities are in the wider municipal area and are separate from Bezmer’s local attractions.

Getting there and accommodation

The Plovdiv–Burgas railway line runs about 1.5 kilometers south of Bezmer; there is also a Bezmer railway station. If you are planning to travel by train, check the connection for your travel date. The approximate location of the line helps with orientation, while checking the timetable will help you plan the actual journey.

For a visit to the aircraft open days or the youth festival, the first thing to consider is the right event date. If your trip is more focused on the churches and local association activities, you can plan your stay independently of these event dates. Decide on your focus and travel dates, then search for holiday apartments in Bezmer if you want to stay overnight there.
