Landscape and Orientation
The Shavarna River is in the Vranilovtsi area. The road connections can also help with orientation: Republic Road II-44 between Sevlievo and Gabrovo runs along the northern edge of the village. In Vranilovtsi, road III-4402 branches off from II-44 south toward Raynovtsi, Smilovtsi, and Gabene.
Culture and Folklore
The Nauka-1902 Community Cultural Center in Vranilovtsi was founded in 1902. The annual Petkovden celebration includes a church service at St. Petka Church; the specific arrangements may vary.
The Vranilchanki folklore group has received many awards and medals at national and regional folklore competitions and festivals. The Balkandzhii dance ensemble also takes part in festivals and competitions; details of its activities may change. If you are travelling for a particular performance, check the current schedule. Vranilchanki from Vranilovtsi also organizes the national “Folklore Paths” festival, which takes place in June in association with the Nezabravka Adventure Park in Popovtsi. In terms of timing, the annual Petkovden celebration and the June festival are two distinct occasions.
Ceramic Craftsmanship and Regional Cuisine
A municipal visitor report from July 2021 featured a pottery workshop in Vranilovtsi as a place to visit. It describes numerous clay vessels and recommends the workshop as a way to learn about ceramic craftsmanship. It also describes the clay-forming technique “iztochvane,” performed by a potter referred to as a “tochar.” Before visiting, check whether the workshop is currently open to visitors.
A visitor report from July 2021 also describes how hosts at the Nauka-1902 Community Cultural Center served homemade food to visitors.
Historical Route and the Gabrovo Region
The historical route of the united group of Haji Dimitar and Stefan Karadja passes through Vranilovtsi. It records their passage after the Battle of Kanlydere on July 9, 1868, and before the final battle at Buzludzha. Special signs marked the historic route; earlier signposts were damaged or destroyed. If you want to follow it on site, check the signage.
The wider Gabrovo tourist area includes other cultural and natural attractions: the protected Lyulyatsite area with hiking connections, the Etar open-air museum, which focuses on crafts and traditional cuisine, as well as the Gradishte eco-trail and a Late Antique fortress. This regional perspective complements Vranilovtsi’s local history and ceramic craftsmanship with other landscape and cultural highlights.
