Sveti Vlas connects the Black Sea coast with the eastern slopes of the Stara Planina. The town is located in the northern part of Nessebar Bay. This brings together different travel interests: south-facing sandy beaches and sea views are part of the townscape, alongside water sports, sailing and trails by the water or in the mountains.

Location and regional orientation

Two approximate distances help put the location into perspective: Nessebar is around 10 km from Sveti Vlas, and Burgas International Airport is about 38 km away. Nessebar is also a destination for cultural visits. If you would like to include culture alongside the beach and water sports, you can plan the city as a separate stop.

Beaches, water and trails

The beaches are sandy and face south; views of the sea towards Nessebar’s Old Town are also part of the townscape. Water attractions and sports activities add to the time spent by the water. Sailing and other water sports offer a different focus. This lets you choose between time on the beach and a more active program on the water.

There are also different options on land: coastal trails and mountain hikes. Coastal trails keep you close to the sea, while mountain hikes shift the focus to the slopes of the Stara Planina. The kind of activity you would like to include in your trip can therefore be a useful guide for planning your days.

The seasonal operation of individual water attractions may vary. If you are planning to visit a specific attraction or take part in a sports activity, check its availability for your travel dates.

Festival and local points of interest

Sveti Vlas’s official festival day is celebrated every year on May 2. The festivities bring together tradition, culture and entertainment. The exact program may change from year to year; if the celebration is important to your trip, check the dates and program for the relevant year in advance. These offer different time-related points of reference for planning your trip: the festival day has a fixed date each year, while the operation of individual water attractions may vary seasonally. So, if you would like to plan for both, consider not only the festival day but also the season for the activity you want to enjoy.

In 2025, Marina Dinevi was among the marinas nominated for Bulgaria’s Blue Flag program.

Weighing up Sveti Vlas as a destination

Sveti Vlas combines the beach and activities on the water with sailing and trails along the coast and in the mountains. If you would also like to plan cultural visits, you can include Nessebar, around 10 km away, as a separate destination in your regional itinerary. This makes it easier to judge whether the mix of coast, activities and a possible cultural focus suits your travel plans, without requiring a fixed daily program.
