Tapiraí offers a variety of reasons to travel: in the town center, you’ll find handicrafts and places of remembrance, while the municipality’s natural attractions include rainforest and waterfalls. The Festa do Gengibre may also influence your choice of travel dates. When planning, it’s worth keeping these different highlights and their respective visiting conditions in mind.

Cultural attractions in the town center

The Orquidário Municipal Umezaki is located at Praça Central de Tapiraí. It is open to the public Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Visits on Saturdays and Sundays are possible by appointment. Since visiting arrangements may change, check the hours and book weekend visits in advance.

The Casa do Artesão is also in the town center. There you’ll find work by local craftspeople, including ginger-based products and woven goods. The Casa Rikio Osawa – Memorial de Tapiraí is dedicated to the history of the Osawa family. Its address is Av. Prof. Nathan Chaves 181. Opening hours at both places may change, so check the current hours before visiting.

July event and rainforest

The Festa do Gengibre is scheduled to take place in Tapiraí every year in July. The municipal events calendar lists the month, but not a specific date. If the festival is a deciding factor for your trip, check the dates and program before making plans.

Another highlight is the Santuário Ecológico do Budismo Primordial, a 76-alqueire area of Atlantic rainforest in the municipality of Tapiraí. The Santuário is also home to the “Sino da Paz” (Peace Bell): it is the second of only two peace bells worldwide officially recognized by the Hiroshima City Government. The rainforest area and the Peace Bell bring together two distinct themes here—landscape and remembrance.

Waterfalls with different features

Cachoeira do Chá is in Bairro do Chá, outside the town center. Its main cascade is 30 meters high, and a 1.2-kilometer trail runs along the Rio Corujas. These features make it easy to decide what to focus on: the height of the main waterfall and the trail’s length.

Cachoeira do Limoeiro is in Bairro do Limoeiro and comprises several waterfalls, with a natural pool at the main waterfall. Facilities at the site also include a suspension bridge, a viewing deck and an accessible trail. Check the information about the facilities before your trip, as these details may change. While the main cascade and trail are the defining features of Chá, Limoeiro stands out for its natural pool and the listed structures.

Handicrafts and a tradition of making things

The Comunidade Cabocla do Ribeirão da Anta in the municipality of Tapiraí is a tourist attraction. Residents make handmade baskets, woven baskets, sieves and mats. The local tradition of making things also includes a more than 50-year-old Monjolo, which is still used to make flour. The handicrafts and continued use of the Monjolo add further aspects of local life to the impressions gained at the cultural attractions in the town center.

When to travel and how to find a hotel

Two specific conditions can help with planning your dates: weekend visits to the Orquidário require an appointment, and you should check the date of the Festa.
