Morungaba brings together community-rooted culture, local handicrafts, regional cycling routes and distinctive landscape features. When choosing what to explore, it helps to consider the different highlights: the Congada represents an old local tradition, Sobrado Amalfi reflects the history of architecture and use, while cycling routes and natural features offer other areas of interest. This makes it easy to plan according to whether you are especially interested in culture, cycling or landscapes.
Culture and Handicrafts
The Congada de Morungaba is one of the town’s oldest traditions and is carried on by members of the local community of all ages. Praça do Artesanato offers a different cultural highlight. It brings together the Centro de Artesanato “Maria das Dores de Oliveira Silva” and the Vila do Artesanato “Angelo Polisello” and offers a wide selection of products made by artisans from Morungaba.
The square thus brings two institutions together in one place, while the Congada is a tradition carried on by the community. When choosing cultural activities, you can distinguish between this tradition and local handicrafts. Both offer a different insight into Morungaba’s cultural side, without telling the same story.
Sobrado Amalfi: Architectural History and Cultural Use
Sobrado Amalfi was built in 1908 as the home of José and Carolina Amalfi. The family lived on the upper floor, while the ground floor served as a commercial space. The building can therefore be understood as a house with a dual function: living and commerce were divided between different floors. This layout is a specific detail of its original use.
The sobrado is one of Morungaba’s oldest buildings and is considered a symbol of local culture. Today, it houses the municipal library and serves as a venue for arts events. Architectural history and cultural use come together in one building here—offering a different perspective from the community-rooted Congada or the handicrafts at the square.
Morungaba by Bike
There are several ways to explore cycling tourism, too. Morungaba is part of regional cycling routes that pass through Joaquim Egídio in Campinas, as well as Amparo, Pedreira, Itatiba, Valinhos, Tuiuti and Bragança Paulista. Since route arrangements may change, check the current routes before planning your trip.
Morungaba was also the host venue in 2025 and 2026 for a recreational cycling-tourism stage of Tour da Roça. The regional routes connect several towns, while the stages refer to specific events held in those two years. This distinguishes the regional route perspective from this event-related cycling activity.
City Panorama and River Landscape
The Cruzeiro is a group of religious images on the summit of one of the hills of Pico da Cabras. From there, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city. The Morungaba stretch of the Rio Jaguari offers a different landscape feature, with numerous rapids and a few waterfalls. Together, these present two distinct landscape themes: a city panorama and the notable features of a stretch of river.
Event Tradition
The Morungaba Rodeo Fest, also known as the 35th Festa do Peão, combines a sertanejo tradition with entertainment. In contrast to the Congada, the emphasis here is on an event; the Congada is a tradition carried on by members of the local community of all ages.
