Guararapes can be explored through specific festival dates and longer-standing features of the town: traditional events, municipal heritage and a protected area with forest and wildlife conservation each offer a different perspective. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between individual festival editions and themes that define the town regardless of an event date. FAPIG and Festa do Folclore are examples of events with clearly defined dates; the listed Capela Santo Antonio and the town’s location along major roads offer other points of reference. This can help you determine the purpose of your trip more precisely, rather than combining all the themes into a fixed itinerary.

Events with specific dates

FAPIG is one of Guararapes’ traditional festivals. Its 39th edition took place from December 5 to 7, 2025, at the Recinto de Exposições “Diogo F. Noble.” The program for this December edition included traditional competitions, such as Prova dos Três Tambores and Prova de Laço, as well as a professional rodeo. If you plan to visit Guararapes for a future festival, check the dates for that edition; the program items and dates mentioned here refer to December 2025.

The traditional Festa do Folclore de Guararapes was scheduled for August 15 and 16, 2026, at Campo Beira Linha. Another event with set dates was Manhã Cultural e Feira do Livro: the free edition, aimed at children, was planned for May 31, 2026, from 8 to 11 a.m. at Praça Nossa Senhora da Conceição. The examples also differ in timing: one is a two-day folklore festival, while the other is a morning event focused on children. Both dates refer to the respective editions mentioned here.

Nature conservation and community activities

Guararapes’ nature-related attractions include Reserva Três Meninos and Caminhada Ecológica. The reserve is a protected area. In July 2026, the city reported ongoing forest restoration and wildlife monitoring there. Caminhada Ecológica took place as its third edition in June and was part of the municipal Environment Week program for World Environment Day on June 5. The two examples offer different perspectives: the reserve represents protection and ongoing measures, while the walk is an event held as part of Environment Week.

Cultural history between the chapel and the railway station

The building of Capela Santo Antonio is listed as part of Guararapes’ municipal historical heritage. The listing is based on a municipal ordinance dated June 13, 2003, which is in force. As a protected building, the chapel adds a cultural and historical dimension to the time-specific festivals.

The former railway station is also part of the town’s cultural history. When the renovated facility opened in June 2024, it was intended to serve as the home of the municipal orchestra “Maestro Pedro Salla” and the guitar project. The music room was to be named “Sala de Música Olindo Jorge Moreira” (Maestro Grã Fino). On August 6, 2026, the orchestra gave a free Father’s Day concert there at 8 p.m., open to the entire population. Thus, a cultural use planned in 2024 and a specific concert in 2026 are both part of the building’s history.

Getting there and choosing when to travel

Guararapes is located along Rodovia Marechal Rondon (SP-300). This road connects the town with São Paulo, the state of Mato Grosso, and Campo Grande and Três Lagoas. This provides a regional road connection for getting there. The reason for your visit and the road connection are separate points of reference when planning your trip.
