Coronel Freitas combines natural attractions within the municipality with cultural sites and a history also reflected in the JACTAS sporting event. When planning, it is worth grouping destinations by their character: forest and a climb on the Trilha do Cipó, panoramic views at Mirante Volta do Dedo, or riverside scenery and cultural stops.

JACTAS and the Municipality’s Festival Week

JACTAS stands for Jogos Abertos de Coronel Freitas. The event was conceived in 1978 during the term of Geromim Antonio Guollo. Its goals at the time included discovering and promoting talent, as well as celebrating the municipality’s anniversary. A description from 2010 classifies JACTAS as a sporting event held during the festival week marking the municipality’s anniversary.

At one documented edition, students from Escola Básica Professora Délia Régis and Colégio Cenecista São José took part. Participants from the districts of Jardinópolis, Águas Frias, and São Luis also attended. This offers a concrete glimpse of one edition of the festival program without assuming that the event was repeated or had the same participation in other years.

Trilha do Cipó and Mirante Belvedere

Mirante Belvedere can be reached on foot or by bicycle from Deck da Fazenda via Trilha do Cipó. The climb along the route from the deck to the summit takes about 20 minutes; the trail is considered easy to moderate. This is an approximate time, and trail conditions can vary. Check current conditions before setting out.

Trilha do Cipó passes through a short stretch of forest with several centuries-old trees. There are suitable picnic spots at the trail and Mirante Belvedere, and tables and benches are available along the route. This makes it possible to enjoy the trail not only as a climb but also as an outing with the option of taking a break along the way. Picnic spots and seating may change, so it is worth checking current conditions before your visit.

Panoramic Views and Road Access to Mirante Volta do Dedo

Mirante Volta do Dedo is in the municipality’s rural area. From there, you can enjoy a panoramic view of a winding bend in the Rio Chapecó: the river loops around the mountain, tracing the shape of a thumb in the landscape. This distinctive feature sets this viewpoint apart from the forest trail at Mirante Belvedere.

Access is via SC-157, followed by a further 3 km on an unpaved road. This stretch is described as being in good condition for driving. Check the road conditions before setting out, as they may change.

Gruta and Other Excursion Destinations

Gruta Nossa Senhora de Lourdes is in Linha Júlio de Castilhos, 3 km from the municipal administrative center. Camping do Tibolla is in Linha Cairu on the banks of the Rio Chapecó, 20 km from downtown Coronel Freitas. The two distances refer to different starting points: the administrative center for the grotto and downtown for the campground. These are distances, not travel times.

Services at Camping do Tibolla are available during the summer season. A description from 2022 also mentions opportunities for camping, physical activities, and relaxation in the river water. Keep the seasonal nature of the services in mind when planning. This keeps the riverside location, the activities mentioned, and their timing as distinct, specific aspects of the destination.

Mirante Trilhas offers another combination: a description from 2022 mentions colonial products and trails through native forest. Igreja Simões Lopes, located in the municipality, is another cultural stop and is built entirely of wood. Salto Cairú is also in the municipality, on the Rio Chapecó. Together, these places offer different points of interest for a trip without prescribing a fixed itinerary.

Plan Your Vacation Rental and Excursions Together

When looking for a vacation rental in Coronel Freitas, you can first decide which destinations you want to shape your stay: the forest and the approximately 20-minute climb on Trilha do Cipó, the views at Mirante Volta do Dedo, or cultural and riverside stops. The distances given for Gruta and Camping do Tibolla help you get your bearings, but do not replace checking the route or current conditions.
