Quebracho brings together the Santuário de Iemanjá and an annual festival; at the same time, Estância Costa do Quebracho represents a different, rural-focused attraction. Light hiking trails are offered there. A 2022 report also mentions gastronomy and preserved Campanha traditions. This leaves two key planning considerations for your stay: the festival date and arranging a visit to the Estância in advance.

The Santuário, Arroio and Grotto

The Santuário de Iemanjá is located in the town of Quebracho, in Hulha Negra. The Arroio Quebracho forms the western boundary of its grounds; this boundary was established by a municipal law in 1994. In the municipality of Hulha Negra, the 1994 municipal law designates the Santuário de Iemanjá and the area within a 3 km radius of its grotto as environmental protection areas. The Gruta de Iemanjá is in the Quebracho area, where the Santuário is also located. Protection or demarcation was also planned for the grotto site. The geographic reference points differ: the Arroio marks the western boundary of the Santuário, while the 3 km radius refers to the grotto.

Festa de Iemanjá and Procissão de Ogum

The traditional Festa de Iemanjá is held annually in Quebracho; an estimate by APATUR puts attendance at around 2,000 visitors. For the 2024 Festa, a local report names the Santuário on the Arroio do Quebracho, beside the BR-293, as the venue. If you want to plan your trip around the celebration, check the dates for that year’s event and arrange your overnight stay accordingly.

Another clearly dated local event is the 20th Procissão de Ogum on April 23, 2026, which drew about 4,000 participants in Bagé. Afterward, the image of Ogum was taken to Quebracho in Hulha Negra and installed there in a grotto prepared specifically for it. The procession itself therefore took place in Bagé; Quebracho was where the image was installed afterward. The events also differ in timing: the Festa de Iemanjá is held annually, whereas the information about the Procissão de Ogum concerns a specific event on April 23, 2026. For a future trip, the Festa is therefore the recurring point of reference; the Ogum procession places the connection with Bagé in its historical context.

Rural Experiences at the Estância

Estância Costa do Quebracho offers light hiking trails. A 2022 report describes it as a rural tourism destination where gastronomy and preserved Campanha traditions play a role, including lamb cooked over an open fire. The report says that tourist visits are arranged through agencies and require an appointment in advance. A 2022/2023 guide also mentions Café de Cambona, which visitors can try by appointment. If you want to combine hiking trails with culinary experiences, ask in advance whether the activities you are interested in can be arranged for your date.
