Explore Volta Redonda through two themes: its industrial heritage and natural areas with Atlantic Rainforest. On the cultural side, there’s a walking tour, a square and its monuments, and event venues; the natural side includes a federal protected area, Parque Natural Municipal Fazenda Santa Cecília do Ingá, and Zoo-VR. These different highlights can help you plan your visit, whether you want to focus on the city’s history, cultural sites, or natural surroundings.
Industrial history on the walking tour and at Praça Brasil
The Caminhos da Vila walking tour explores the industrial heritage. It traces remnants of the urban planning of the workers’ town, built alongside Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN), and recalls the industrialization of Brazil, in which Volta Redonda played a part. Praça Brasil offers a different perspective: its monument ensemble includes a full-length bronze statue of President Getúlio Vargas and three bronze statues symbolizing the steel industry and honoring CSN employees, known as Arigós. A central obelisk displays reliefs depicting different stages of steel production. While the walking tour focuses on the planning of the workers’ town, Praça Brasil illustrates the links between industry, its workers, and the history of production.
Memorials and cultural venues
The Memorial Zumbi dos Palmares was inaugurated as a cultural center on June 1, 1990. It serves to preserve African cultural values and promote affirmative action initiatives. The memorial and the Zumbi dos Palmares sculpture in Vila Santa Cecília include an amphitheater and an exhibition hall, which are used for events celebrating Black culture and other cultural events. Also in Vila Santa Cecília, Espaço das Artes Zélia Arbex is dedicated entirely to exhibitions and cultural events. A creative space for art workshops was later added. The venues therefore have different focuses: the memorial combines remembrance with cultural events, while Espaço das Artes is dedicated to exhibitions and cultural events.
Protected areas and the zoo
Floresta da Cicuta is a federal protected area in the Área de Relevante Interesse Ecológico (ARIE) category, located between the municipalities of Volta Redonda and Barra Mansa. Parque Natural Municipal Fazenda Santa Cecília do Ingá covers 211 hectares, of which about 90 hectares are native Atlantic Rainforest and reforested areas. For Floresta da Cicuta, its protected-area category and location between two municipalities are useful points of reference; the size and vegetation of the municipal nature park give a sense of its scale and landscape.
Zoo-VR is within the city limits of Volta Redonda, in the Vila Santa Cecília neighborhood, and covers 150,439 square meters. It is located in an area of Atlantic Rainforest vegetation, near Floresta da Cicuta. Zoo-VR is open to the public and admission is free. Check current opening information before your visit.
Cycling, guided tours, and karting
A municipal report dated March 21, 2022, names Volta Redonda as the starting point of the Circuito Sul Fluminense de Cicloturismo, a georeferenced cycle-tourism route in the south of the state of Rio de Janeiro. As route status and signage may change, check the latest information before planning a bike ride there. A description from May 2026 also outlines a guided tour in Floresta da Cicuta: on this tour, a 1,800-meter route led to Cachoeira do Rio Brandão. If you plan to take this route, confirm access and tour arrangements with ICMBio.
Motorsports enthusiasts can visit Arena Kartódromo Internacional de Volta Redonda, which has a 1,250-meter-long, 8-meter-wide track. Among other events, the arena hosts the Rio de Janeiro State Karting Championship. Check specific event dates if you’re planning your visit around a race.
Getting to shopping centers
If shopping centers are part of your plans, the Tarifa Comercial Zero bus may be useful: it connects the main shopping centers in Volta Redonda for free and offers air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and phone charging points. Routes and services may change, so check the latest information before making a specific trip.
