Up to 66 percent of Mesquita’s municipal area may consist of protected green spaces. Along with nature trails, historical traces, public art and markets, this offers different ways to plan a trip. You can include nature watching and walking routes, as well as church architecture, industrial history and local dining options.

Protected Areas and Nature Experiences

Mesquita has two protected areas: the Área de Proteção Ambiental and the Parque Natural Municipal. They serve to protect the natural ecosystem and support environmental education and ecotourism. Protected green spaces may account for up to 66 percent of the municipal area.

One specific nature destination is Gleba Modesto Leal, also known as Parque do Vulcão. The area offers opportunities for nature observation, hiking and walking, as well as extreme sports. It is also home to the ruins of the headquarters of Fazenda Dona Eugênia, dating from the 19th century. These ruins add a historical note alongside the nature-based activities.

The nearby Parque Natural de Nova Iguaçu is another option in the surrounding area. From Mesquita, it can be reached via the Coréia neighborhood, the end of Avenida Brasil, a small bridge and then Estrada da Cachoeira. As road conditions may change, check the route before setting out.

History, Views and Art

Paróquia de Nossa Senhora das Graças was founded in 1940 and is popularly known as Santa das Medalhas. Its features include stained-glass windows and sacred images. The church is on elevated ground and serves as a viewpoint, offering views of city neighborhoods and tourist attractions. History, religious significance and views come together at this particular location.

Industrial history is also part of the cityscape. The chimney of the former French brickworks Ludof & Ludolf is considered a symbol of Mesquita’s local industrial development. The Revitalizart graffiti artwork runs along the railway wall on Avenida Baronesa de Mesquita, complementing these historical traces with a work of public art.

Visits, Activities and Culture

At Espaço Ciência Interativa, visitors can see the NeuroSensações exhibition and Parque da Ciência from Tuesday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Operating information was updated in July 2026; check the hours before your trip.

Vila Olímpica Municipal is one of the municipal venues for cultural and sports activities. Residents who would like to take part in these activities can contact one of the available venues in Mesquita. Vila Olímpica de Mesquita is used for physical activity, and a cycle path runs in front of it.

There are also cycle paths on Avenida Baronesa de Mesquita and at Feliciano Sodré. The municipal information about these paths dates from 2024. Before planning a specific ride, check the current situation rather than assuming the individual sections form a continuous route.

Monte Horebe is a tourist and religious destination in Mesquita and has an observation deck. Check its current condition before your visit. Alongside nature and culture, Mesquita therefore also offers various viewpoints to consider when choosing what to focus on.

Markets and Food

A municipal list from December 2024 records six open-air markets across the city’s neighborhoods. They offer a variety of goods, especially agricultural produce such as vegetables and fruit. Locations and hours may change; check the latest information if you have a particular market in mind.

Polo Gastronômico da Vila Emil is listed as having about twenty snack bars and restaurants on Ambrósio and Hercília streets. The number of businesses and their locations may change. If you plan to eat there, it is a good idea to check the latest information before your visit.
