Bonito offers a range of nature and excursion experiences: municipal protected areas, panoramic views from a cable car, a chapel along the cable car route, and the opportunity to rappel down a waterfall. When planning your trip, it is important to note that these destinations are subject to different conditions. A permit is required to enter two municipal protected areas; you should check whether the cable car is operating before your trip. Arrangements for rappelling may also change. You can first decide whether nature and conservation, a scenic ride, or a specific activity will be the main focus of your stay.

Protected Areas and Their Purpose

Parque Natural Municipal Matas do Mucuri Hymalaia covers 105 hectares. It protects natural ecosystems of great ecological importance and scenic beauty; recreation and ecotourism are also possible. If you plan to visit this protected area, be aware of the entry requirement: a permit from the Secretaria de Desenvolvimento Rural e Meio Ambiente is required. Be sure to factor in this permit when planning your visit.

Monumento Natural Municipal Orquidário Pedra da Rosária covers 52.8 hectares and protects natural sites that are rare, unique, or especially scenic. The protected area includes public or private land. The two municipal protected areas differ both in size and in what they protect: the Parque focuses on natural ecosystems, while the natural monument protects sites that are rare, unique, or especially scenic. Entry to the Monumento also requires a permit from the Secretaria de Desenvolvimento Rural e Meio Ambiente.

Cable Car, City Views and Chapel

Teleférico Gov. Eduardo Campos is 1,200 meters long, offers panoramic views of the city, and connects Bonito’s event grounds with Capela de Nossa Senhora do Monte Serrat. The ride takes twelve minutes. This gives you a specific time estimate for planning your day, while also taking you to a named destination. Check whether the cable car is currently operating before your trip.

The chapel was built in 1954 in fulfillment of a vow, giving this named destination a historical connection as well.

Rappelling and Panoramic Views

Rappelling is possible at Cachoeira Véu de Noiva 1, a waterfall with a drop of about 32 meters. Arrangements for the activity may change; check the latest details before your trip, especially if rappelling is important to your plans. This option differs from the Teleférico: here, the focus is on a possible activity at the waterfall, while the other offers a ride of a specified duration with city views.

Mirante da Pedra do Rodeadouro also offers panoramic views. The Teleférico combines city views with a twelve-minute ride; the Mirante offers panoramic views from a named lookout point. This lets you decide whether you would prefer views as part of a ride or to focus on the lookout point itself.
