Tracuateua brings together traces of the former Belém–Bragança railway line with nature and history. Along the Trilha da Antiga Estrada de Ferro, a tree tunnel covers the path; on Avenida Mário Nogueira, yellow-flowering Ipês brighten the town in November. Other highlights include the former railway station, traces of agricultural development, a balneário in the town center, and religious festivals. Travelers can find a range of reasons to visit, from scenery and local history to seasonal events.

Ipê Blossoms and the Railway Line

The Florada dos Ipês takes place over three consecutive days in November. During this time, Ipê blossoms fall, forming a yellow carpet along Avenida Mário Nogueira. There are 146 yellow-flowering Ipês on one side of the street. The natural timing of the bloom can vary. If you are traveling specifically to see the blossoms, check the expected timing again shortly before departure.

The Trilha da Antiga Estrada de Ferro follows part of the former Belém–Bragança railway line. It is about 1 km from the town center and around 4 km long. These two measurements describe different things: about 1 km is the distance to the center, while around 4 km is the length of the trail. A tree tunnel covers the path. The railway line was completed in April 1908; the origins of Tracuateua are also connected with its construction. As well as its scenery, the trail offers a link to local history.

Railway History and Agriculture

The Antiga parada ferroviária, on Trav. Principal in the Centro, is a historical and cultural attraction classified as civil architecture. Another chapter in local history concerns agriculture: in 1922, an experimental tobacco-growing station was established in Tracuateua. Agricultural development contributed to the growth of the settlement by creating jobs and attracting further investment.

Balneário Riacho Doce

Balneário Riacho Doce is in the center of Tracuateua. The access road is partly paved and partly unpaved, and is in good condition. Road conditions can change, so check them before setting out. The balneário has a bar, a restaurant, and basic shelters. If you have specific plans to visit, confirm in advance whether these facilities are available.

Religious Festivals and Dates

The Círio is a religious event in Tracuateua, held on the third Sunday in August. Check the date again before your trip. A municipal report from January 2020 described the Festa de São Benedito e São Sebastião as an annual event and named the Associação da Marujada as its organizer. Confirm the program for your intended travel year.

Trilha do Mutumbal in the Associated Community

In the associated community, the Trilha do Mutumbal runs through the former EMBRAPA grounds and partly follows the former Belém–Bragança railway line. The ruins of the former EMBRAPA campus include a stable, a cattle pen, and a pigsty. The trail also features the source of the Mutumbal River and a place where artisanal fishing can be practiced. In contrast to the Trilha da Antiga Estrada de Ferro, the highlights here are the campus ruins, the river source, and fishing; the stretch in Tracuateua is characterized by its tree tunnel.
