Marabá combines historical and cultural attractions with city squares and nature experiences. When planning your trip, it is worth considering the different visiting arrangements: some places offer exhibitions or cultural events, visits to Parque Zoobotânico are by appointment, and Praia do Tucunaré appears seasonally.
Church, History, and Exhibitions
Igreja de São Félix de Valois was the first church built in Marabá. It is also considered the municipality’s first historical heritage site and was designated a protected monument on April 5, 1993. This site brings together two aspects of the city’s history: its early role as a church and its protected status. If you are interested in Marabá’s historical development, this is a specific point of reference.
Museu Municipal Francisco Coelho is located in Palacete Augusto Dias in Marabá Pioneira. It features permanent and temporary exhibitions on Marabá’s hundred-year history. The permanent and temporary exhibits offer different perspectives; if you are particularly interested in a current exhibition, it is worth checking the latest information.
Cultural Venues with Different Focuses
Fundação Casa da Cultura de Marabá is a municipal cultural attraction in Nova Marabá. It provides space for visits, study, and research into the region’s cultural, natural, historical, and scientific heritage. Its heritage education program works mainly through workshops, courses, and publications on regional archaeology, local history, and the community’s cultural ties.
In Marabá Pioneira, Cine Marrocos serves as an amphitheater for cultural events. If you would like to plan your trip around a particular event, check the current schedule, as the program may change.
Squares, Environmental Education, and Seasonal Landscapes
Praça Osório Francisco Martins Pinheiro is also known as Praça da Prefeitura or Paço Municipal. This tourist attraction has lawns, trees, a playground, and a fountain. Praça São Francisco is another recreational area, with playgrounds for children of different ages, a sports area, and trees. The features described distinguish the two squares; they should not be understood as one shared location.
Parque Zoobotânico de Marabá is a municipal attraction on BR-155, km 05. Visits are by appointment: the park welcomes school groups and various institutions for environmental education visits. Confirm any such appointment before traveling there. The park preserves native trees; a 2021 municipal inventory lists about 200 animal specimens, including hyacinth macaws, ocelots, and jaguars. The approximate number and conservation conditions may change over time.
Near the destination, Praia do Tucunaré lies opposite Núcleo Marabá Pioneira and is also included in tourist routes. The beach emerges as the Tocantins recedes after the rainy season and covers approximately 5 km². The timing and exposed area depend on river conditions. Therefore, do not plan this visit as a beach experience that remains the same throughout the year.
The respective conditions affect planning in different ways. In particular, check in advance about arrangements for Parque Zoobotânico and the dates of temporary exhibitions or events.
