Itaituba brings together urban history, cultural events and natural destinations nearby. The options also differ in terms of planning: the museum and waterfront are places to visit in the city, while a river trip, seasonal sandbanks or road routes each require different amounts of time and travel planning. When choosing your destination, it is therefore worth considering your specific reason for travelling: culture, nature or travelling via the TapajĂłs.

Cultural attractions and events

The Museu Aracy ParaguassĂş features themed rooms and materials on the political, social and economic history of Itaituba. Its three subject areas give the museum visit a broad historical scope. If you are planning a visit, check the current visitor arrangements separately.

Arraiatuba is a traditional four-day cultural festival in Itaituba. Its multi-day format makes it a distinct reason to travel; if your trip is connected to the festival, check the dates for that year’s edition before travelling. The Orla de Itaituba also has a cultural connection: it hosted cultural events during Festa de Sant’ana. If you would like to plan your trip around a festival programme, check the latest dates and programme.

A municipal report dated 25 August 2025 describes the older Praça do Cidadão in the Bairro Bom Remédio as a place frequently used by the local community for leisure and recreation, especially on weekends. The Orla is also home to the Feira Beira Rio, with 107 sales booths for various commercial activities. What is on offer there may change.

Natural destinations nearby

Lago do Jacaré is about 50 minutes upriver by boat from the administrative centre of Itaituba and is particularly well suited to sport fishing. The stated travel time is a guide; river conditions affect the journey. It is important to note that this is a boat trip, not a road distance.

During the low-water season from August to December, sandbanks form in the Parque Nacional da Amazônia beside the clear waters of the Rio Tapajós, inviting visitors to swim. Water levels vary from year to year, so this seasonal landscape may change. Another reference point is the national park’s first base at Igarapé Tracoá, about 53 km from downtown Itaituba via the Transamazônica. Road conditions along this route vary seasonally.

Caverna Paraíso is about 90 km from Itaituba. The route follows the BR-230 to kilometre 72, then continues along the Transforlândia side road. Road conditions and access arrangements may change, so check them before setting out. The approximately 50-minute journey to Lago do Jacaré is a boat trip, while the distances given for the national park and Caverna provide a guide to distances and routes, not travel times.
