Pouso Alegre offers a variety of ways to enjoy a stay: a museum dedicated to the history of the city and region, the Parque Natural Municipal, shaped by its protected status and biodiversity, and the Mercado Municipal, which brings together goods and gastronomy. There are also historic buildings, viewpoints and cycling routes. When planning your visit, you can choose how much to focus on culture, nature and local offerings.

History and cultural sites

The Museu HistĂłrico Municipal Tuany Toledo preserves and presents the history of Pouso Alegre and the region. Its permanent exhibition includes a diverse collection covering different aspects of local history in themed areas. The museum has a ramp and an adapted bathroom for people with disabilities.

Construction of the neoclassical Teatro Municipal began in 1873; the building was inaugurated in 1875. In April 1999, Decree No. 2349 recognized it as part of Pouso Alegre’s historical heritage and placed it under preservation protection. The Catedral Metropolitana de Pouso Alegre was consecrated on August 3, 1980, by which time its construction had been completed. The two buildings thus represent different chapters in the city’s history.

According to the cultural calendar, the Casa da Cultura Menotti Del Picchia hosts exhibitions by artists. If you would like to plan a visit, check the scheduled dates.

Nature, viewpoints and activities

The Parque Natural Municipal Prof. Dr. Fernando Afonso Bonillo Fernandes is a nature reserve with strict protected status. Its plant diversity is complemented by a rich variety of birds and several non-flying mammals. The park encompasses the Mandu and SapucaĂ Mirim rivers, which belong to the Rio SapucaĂ watershed. Here, a protected area meets a wider hydrological context.

Cristo Redentor stands at an elevation of about 1,200 meters at a viewpoint offering panoramic views of Pouso Alegre and the surrounding area. For cycling, the city lists three routes with different difficulty ratings and lengths: the easy Trilha do Polvilho is 25 km long, the moderate Trilha da Dona Malvina is 35 km, and the difficult Trilha do Cervo is 49 km. Difficulty rating and route length offer two concrete points of comparison; conditions on the routes can change, so check them before setting out.

Mina do Machado has wheelchair access and a paved corridor leading to its three water outlets. Parque Francisco de Assis Vilela, also known as Lago do FĂłrum, offers opportunities for walking, running and outdoor exercise, as well as playgrounds for children. Both places add further specific attractions to the viewpoints and cycling routes.

Market and culinary discoveries

The Mercado Municipal de Pouso Alegre is a social gathering place. Its offerings include fruit, vegetables, grains, spices, sweets, cheese, meat, distilled spirits, handicrafts and souvenirs; there are also bars, snack bars and a restaurant. Individual businesses and their opening hours may change. If you are coming for a particular offering, check the latest information before your visit.

The “Quarta no Parque” event takes place at Praça João Pinheiro on Wednesdays. Nonprofit organizations offer food stalls there. As the program may change, check in advance whether the event is taking place on the day of your visit.

At Alambique Cachaça Dona Diva, you can learn about the cachaça-making process and take part in tastings and sensory analyses of aged cachaças. Visits are available by appointment.
