Alto Taquari offers two themes to help plan a trip: its waterscape and local festival traditions. Small boats can travel on the lake at the Complexo do Parque Taquari, while cultural events and anniversary traditions offer another glimpse of the town. If you’re looking for a vacation rental, you can start by considering whether a specific festival or the waterways will be the reason for your trip.
The lake and rivers as distinct highlights
The lake at the Complexo do Parque Taquari has a surface area of more than 33 hectares. Small boats such as speedboats, jet skis and kayaks can travel on it. Rapids and waterfalls are part of the natural landscape of the Rio Taquari. The lake’s surface area and the types of boats mentioned give it a different character from the river landscape with its natural rapids and waterfalls. Boating is associated with the lake; rapids and waterfalls are features of the Rio Taquari.
The rivers also flow in different directions: the Rio Taquari flows south into the RĂo de la Plata Basin, while the Rio Araguaia flows north into the Amazon Basin. Their courses thus point in opposite directions and lead to two different basins. This contrast is a distinct aspect of Alto Taquari’s geography, alongside the specific features of the lake and the Rio Taquari.
Town square and architectural history
The Igreja Católica Matriz “Paróquia São José” is located opposite Alto Taquari’s town square. The church was built in 1989. Its location by the square and its year of construction provide a specific point of reference for the town’s history. Those interested in Alto Taquari’s cultural character will find a different focus here than in its festivals: a named building with a clear connection to the town square.
Festivals and traditions
Festa de Maio is a traditional festival celebrating the anniversary of the founding of Alto Taquari. Its program includes civic and cultural activities as well as shows; the tradition follows an annual pattern. Missa Sertaneja is also a tradition held as part of the anniversary celebrations. Together, these customs show that the town anniversary includes both community activities and a religious celebration.
Festa de Peão has a different event profile: in the municipality of Alto Taquari, it is a traditional event featuring shows, auctions, rodeos, markets, handicraft exhibitions and typical foods. This mix brings together stage entertainment, commerce, crafts and regional food culture. If you’re planning to attend a specific festival, check the dates for that year’s edition before choosing your accommodation.
Expotaquari is also a cultural festival that brings together families from Alto Taquari and visitors. The 29th edition was officially opened on May 14 at Parque de Exposições Antônio Buscariol. During the anniversary celebrations, a Cavalgada organized by the Sindicato Rural made its way through the town’s streets; a traditional Costelão was also served as part of the anniversary program. A beach volleyball tournament took place at Praia 1 on Lago Municipal and brought athletes and spectators to Alto Taquari. These examples represent different types of events, from cultural festivals and community anniversary traditions to sports.
Choose what brings you on your trip
When looking for a vacation rental, it helps to first decide what brings you on your trip. If you’re planning to attend a festival, the dates of that edition are important; for a nature-focused trip, the lake and the river features offer distinct themes. Culture enthusiasts can also choose between the church by the town square and the various festival traditions.
