Batayporã: Festival traditions, memory and trails
Batayporã is part of the Vale das Águas tourism region in Mato Grosso do Sul. Several distinct themes come together in the town: the celebration of the town’s patron saint, the Centro de Memória Jindrich Trachta, color-coded trail systems, and Lagoa do Sapo as a public place for recreation and community life. This mix gives you different starting points for planning your trip—from religious traditions and local history to outdoor trails.
Festivals throughout the year
Every year on June 13, the Catholic community gathers to celebrate Saint Anthony as the town’s patron saint. The religious program of the Festa de Santo Antônio includes a solemn Mass, the blessing and distribution of Saint Anthony rolls, and a procession of vehicles through the town’s streets. The festival has been celebrated since 1972; its recurring date gives the tradition a clear place in the local calendar.
Official recognition also underscores its significance to Batayporã: Law No. 1,390 of May 16, 2025, recognized the Festa de Santo Antônio de Pádua as a cultural, traditional, and popular manifestation of the town. Those interested in a destination’s religious and community life will find a concrete glimpse here of a long-standing local festival tradition.
Memorial site and trails
The Centro de Memória Jindrich Trachta opened in September 2001. It preserves the historical and cultural collection left by Jindrich Trachta and is housed in part of the former CVSPMT administrative building where Trachta lived. The collection and the building thus tell two connected aspects of his story: his cultural legacy and his former home. The center has also become a point of reference for many tourists from what is now the Czech Republic who visit Brazil.
The trail network in Batayporã, as described in 2019, comprises three color-coded systems—a blue, a red, and a green one—with a combined total of 97 kilometers. In this described network, the trails begin and end at the Centro de Memória Jindrich Trachta; they can be used for hiking and cycling tourism. The figures refer to different details: the combined length of the three systems is 97 kilometers, while in 2015 the Centro and the Cescke Turistú club jointly marked 19 kilometers of ecological trails using an international marking system. This distinguishes the total network length from the separately reported marking work. Confirm the current condition of the trails locally before planning a trip.
Lagoa do Sapo and the Festa do Sereno
Lagoa do Sapo is one of the most important public places for community life and recreation in Batayporã. For the recreational area at the lagoon, project plans reported in August 2026 included pergolas, benches, landscaping, an expanded playground, and parking. These are planned project components and may change during construction. When planning a trip, it is therefore worth distinguishing the lagoon’s established role as a public meeting place from the individual proposals in the recreation project.
Another cultural highlight is the Festa do Sereno, which is part of Mato Grosso do Sul’s cultural calendar and attracts visitors from various cities in the region. Its 45th edition took place from June 26 to 28. Alongside the music program, this edition included stalls selling typical foods and an amusement park. Batayporã thus offers different kinds of festivals: the religious celebration of the town’s patron saint and a cultural festival featuring music, food, and an amusement park.
