Teresina de Goiás brings together landscapes along the Rio Paranã, waterfalls, a thermal spring and cultural attractions. This offers distinct ways to experience the area, from river scenery and water activities to viewpoints and community-based experiences.
Location and natural environment
The municipality lies in the northeastern part of the Chapada dos Veadeiros at an elevation of 715 meters. Two protected-area designations should be distinguished: the APA de Pouso Alto covers the municipality; Teresina de Goiás is also one of the five municipalities whose territory is part of the Parque Nacional da Chapada dos Veadeiros.
River landscapes and waterfalls
The Estreito do Funil area along the Rio Paranã features canyons, rapids and spectacular views, and is considered the municipality’s main tourist attraction. Boat trips and fishing tourism are also offered there. The landscape and range of activities offer different points of interest: both the river scenery and activities on the water take center stage.
Poço Encantado waterfall is about 38 meters high in total. The lower section is 20 meters; after a small plateau comes the upper section, at 18 meters. There is also a natural pool about 50 meters wide, with a white-sand beach. The beach’s size and shape change considerably after each new filling of the pool. This distinguishes the site from a waterfall whose shoreline shape could be described as constant.
Fazenda dos Mangues has a thermal spring about two kilometers from town. From the hilltop, Mirante do Cruzeiro offers an impressive view of the quiet character of Teresina de Goiás. The spring and viewpoint thus complement the canyons and waterfalls with two other natural features.
Food and communities
A clear seasonal highlight is Festa do Caju: it takes place every year in September and has been celebrated in Teresina de Goiás since 1988. The festival recalls the gathering and processing of Cajuzinho do Campo fruits into various sweets and preserves. Travelers who want to include a food-related occasion in their plans can use September as a guide.
The Kalunga community of Vão das Almas in Teresina de Goiás is known for its traditions and customs, including culinary practices. This is a different cultural reference from Festa do Caju: here the focus is on a community’s traditions, while the festival centers on the annual processing of a particular fruit. The Kalunga community of Diadema is also one of the municipality’s main attractions. Visits should be arranged respectfully and confirmed locally.
In June 2025, ABETA described a community-based tourism experience developed in the Ema community. The experience at Espaço Akan includes a short walk and swimming in the river along the rock slabs of Ribeirão do Boi. This adds another nature-focused activity to viewpoints and waterfalls: a walk followed by swimming in the river.
