Get to know Itabela through cultural events and local history. The variety of events includes the Festival Regional de Quadrilhas Juninas, handicraft events, a traditional cycling programme and a Supercross round. The specific programmes span 2025 to 2026.

Festivals and cultural events

On 14 June 2026, Itabela hosted the 6th Festival Regional de Quadrilhas Juninas at Praça da Matriz. The city described the festival as one of Bahia’s most important cultural events. The Quadrilha group Chega Junto, representing Itabela, took first place in the municipal rankings at this edition. The June event therefore centred on the Quadrilha festival and a local competition result. Those interested in festival culture can distinguish this event from a handicraft exhibition or a sports programme.

Handicrafts feature in two different event formats. The first Feira Livre de Mulheres Empreendedoras ran for two days in May 2026. Visitors could view and buy handmade products there, including crochet work, fabric paintings, 3D objects, handmade sweets and other creative items. In October 2025, the Exposição de Artesanato by the Associação Mãos Criativas showcased handmade pieces by local craftswomen with a regional identity. The difference is also in the format: the Feira offered sales and a variety of product types; the Exposição showcased local handicrafts with a regional connection.

Events with different focuses

A traditional Passeio Ciclístico was part of the celebrations marking the 37th anniversary of Itabela’s political emancipation. The event was scheduled for 12 June 2026; the Quadrilha festival took place on 14 June. The dates were therefore only two days apart, but marked different occasions: the cycling programme was part of the anniversary, while the festival was a Quadrilha competition. For a trip in June 2026, these are two events close together in time but clearly distinct.

The 4th round of the Copa Brasil de Supercross, by contrast, was scheduled for 12 and 13 September 2026 at CT Itabela Racing Team. This two-day competition took place several months after the June events and had a different focus from the cycling programme or Quadrilha festival.

The Caravana da Alegria brought another type of event to Itabela in October 2025: it included theatre, dance and circus performances, as well as games and inflatable play equipment for children. Unlike the competitions, this programme combined stage performances with activities.

Local history and landscape

The town’s name offers another way to explore its history. The original name, Tabela, comes from a trading post owned by Mr João. Passing tropeiros stopped there and consulted a sign showing distances to other places. This explanation brings together a trading post, a place to rest and practical directions at the same stop; the settlement got its original name from this stop. For visitors, this is a specific historical connection that differs from the dated event programmes.

Monte Pascoal is visible from Itabela. This view adds a landscape dimension to the story of the town’s name, while the events provide dates to help plan a trip.
