Berimbau and samba de roda are part of the cultural identity of Conceição do Jacuípe, also known as Berimbau. The town also hosts festivals for a range of occasions. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between these cultural associations and events with a specific schedule: would you like to get to know the town through its culture, or plan your trip around a particular festival?
Berimbau and local culture
The berimbau shapes the local cultural identity, and samba de roda is also part of the culture of Conceição do Jacuípe. A berimbau at the central fountain in Praça Benjamin Costa pays tribute to this identity. The square was renovated and reopened to the public on April 2, 2025. Before visiting, it is advisable to check the current conditions.
The group Raízes da Pindoba is also connected to the local culture. The Mercado de Arte e Cultura de Conceição de Jacuípe, at Praça Manoel Teixeira de Freitas, offers another connection to art and crafts. The market has 22 stalls where local artisans can display their work and products. The feira-livre is also one of the town’s main tourist attractions.
Festivals as a reason to travel
The Festa da Padroeira takes place over ten days in December at Praça da Matriz and honors Nossa Senhora da Conceição. In 2021, a month-long Pré-Novenário was announced in the lead-up, with events in various neighborhoods and other locations around town. If you plan to travel for a festival, check the dates for your travel year before making plans.
The Arraiá do Berimbau draws visitors from nearby towns to music shows by Brazilian artists. The Festa da Padroeira is associated with December, while music shows are the main focus of the Arraiá. The Lavagem do Picado is also part of the cultural events calendar. When planning, you can therefore decide whether a religious festival, a music program, or another cultural attraction is the main draw for you.
The district of Picado also has a literary connection: it was the setting for a work by Jorge Amado.
Squares and getting around
Praça Vivendas do Jacuípe has a children’s playground and a leisure area. If you would like to include these facilities in your day’s plans, check their current condition in advance. This keeps your plans grounded in on-site conditions rather than assuming that the state documented previously still applies.
Getting there and accommodation
The BR-324 is one of the main roads into Conceição do Jacuípe. Check current road conditions before setting out. Fazenda Hotel Candeal is in the municipality, also known as Berimbau; the property is 100 km from Salvador and 30 km from Feira de Santana.
Fazenda Hotel Candeal offers guided horseback rides and a guided trail with a swim at a waterhole. If you are not staying there, ask in advance whether these activities are available to non-guests. This lets you link your accommodation decision with a specific on-site experience without assuming that the activities can be accessed independently.
