Strica lies on the slopes of Mount Zvijezda, at an altitude of more than 1,000 metres above sea level. Hiking trails, a protected landscape and local produce give visitors several specific ways to enjoy a stay here. Strica has been associated with rural tourism since 1983. For travel planning, the village can therefore be considered from three perspectives: as a mountain village, as a destination for marked trails and as a place where locally produced food is part of the visitor experience.
Landscape around Strica
Strica is part of Zone C1 of the protected Zvijezda area. One of the defining natural features of this zone is the Strički potok watercourse. The altitude and protected-area setting complement each other: Strički potok is one of the natural features of Zone C1, which includes Strica. The landscape therefore encompasses both the high-altitude mountain setting and a specific watercourse within the protected area. For anyone weighing landscape and nature when choosing a destination, this offers a clear guide to the character of the place.
Hiking trails and regional produce
The local hiking trail “Put zdrave hrane” passes through Strica. Along the trail, visitors can sample and buy food. Hiking and regional produce come together on this specific route, making the themed trail appealing to travellers who want to combine physical activity with culinary discoveries.
Another route is the Vareš Transversal “Zvjezdane staze”: it is 158 kilometres long, has 21 checkpoints and passes through the villages of Strica and Zaruđe. Its length and checkpoints give a clear idea of its scope. The difference between it and the local themed trail is useful when choosing a route: Put zdrave hrane passes through Strica, while the Transversal runs through both villages.
The green route of Via Dinarica also passes through Strica and Zaruđe. The trails through both villages are marked, and there are equipped rest areas with pavilions along the way. These general trail markings and rest facilities complement the information provided by the individual route names. When planning a hike, you can take into account both the specific route and these features of the trails through the villages.
In February 2026, a marked hiking trail from the “Sirena” restaurant through dense pine forest towards Strica was described as following the well-known “Put zdrave hrane”. Particularly fresh trout is served at the “Sirena” restaurant.
Several local producers in Strica offer honey, jams, liqueurs, homemade juices, trout, eggs, buckwheat noodles and various cheeses. The selection ranges from sweets and drinks to eggs, noodles, fish and cheese. This variety of products provides a distinct culinary focus alongside the trails and landscape. Together with the opportunity to sample and buy food on the “Put zdrave hrane”, it gives visitors interested in regional produce specific ways to enjoy their stay.
Winter activities and accommodation
In connection with winter tourism, Strica and Zaruđe are mentioned together as a destination with a ski lift; an excursion area is also listed for the two villages in this context.
