Tarasava can be explored through two interconnected themes: the history of the place and the religious culture surrounding the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God. A memorial plaque bearing the image of Prince Konstantin Ostrozhsky and a memorial avenue dedicated to him add to this historical context. Three different perspectives can help with trip planning: local history, church community life, and individual cultural events.

Local History and Remembrance

Tarasava is documented in written records from at least 1477. In 1515, the place was acquired by Prince Konstantin Ivanovich Ostrozhsky and later developed into a mestechko, a local administrative, commercial, and craft center. The place’s Orthodox tradition is associated with the construction of its first church in the 17th and 18th centuries. The secular development of the place and its religious history can thus be considered as two distinct but intertwined themes.

Associated with the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God in Tarasava are an unveiled memorial plaque bearing the image of Prince Konstantin Ostrozhsky and a memorial avenue established in honor of the blessed prince. These memorials recall a figure who also played a role in the history of the place: Ostrozhsky acquired Tarasava in 1515. In this way, history and remembrance are connected without reducing the different milestones to a single event.

Community Life and Dated Cultural Events

From 2003 to 2009, the Tarasovo church choir performed programs of sacred and folk music on various concert stages in Belarus and Germany. This historical period offers a glimpse into the community’s musical life and its performances beyond Belarus at the time.

Individual cultural events can also be placed precisely in time. The artistic plein-air event “Sirenevy Rai” took place on the grounds of the church complex from May 12 to 26, 2025. On January 7 and 11, 2026, young artists from the parish theater “Tarasovsky Bell” congratulated the clergy and parishioners on Christmas after the services. The two January performances took place on these specific dates.

Tarasava’s Sunday school is organized as a family-style school; parents take part in the creative and educational process. As the organization may change, if you are interested, it is best to check in advance what opportunities for participation are currently available. A schedule of services for August 2026 was provided for the church. If you visit later, check the latest schedule so your plans match the current service times.

More Cultural Themes in Minsk Region

Those who explore the wider region will find distinct destinations in Minsk Region with different focuses. Dudutki is a museum of Belarusian rural culture where many national crafts are demonstrated live. Visitors can also sample cheese made at the local cheese factory; the opportunity to sample it may vary. This combines a look at traditional crafts with a specific culinary theme.

In Niasvizh, architectural history and landscape come together in a different way: the palace ensemble lies in the northeastern part of the city and is surrounded by ponds along the Uša River. Niasvizh Town Hall was built in 1596, ten years after the town was granted Magdeburg rights. The Corpus Christi Church was built from 1587 to 1593 to a design by architect Giovanni Maria Bernardoni, commissioned by Nikolai Christopher “the Orphan” Radziwill. The chronology and the named patrons and architects give this place a distinctly architectural-historical focus.

Another, differently focused place of remembrance is the “Dalva” memorial complex, an architectural and sculptural complex commemorating the residents of the village of Dalva. It is located at kilometer 77 of the Minsk–Vitebsk road, on the grounds of the former village of Dalva in Logoysk District. Tours are available by prior arrangement and are conducted exclusively by staff of the memorial complex. Keep this condition in mind when planning a tour.
