Lyuban offers culture enthusiasts several different perspectives: the Museum of National Glory traces a historical arc from the Middle Stone Age to the end of the Second World War; handicraft venues focus on straw, pottery and weaving. An arboretum adds rare tree species and an opportunity to spend time outdoors. When choosing a focus, it helps to distinguish between regional history, handicrafts and nature.

Regional History at the Museum

The Museum of National Glory in Lyuban presents the history of the area from the Middle Stone Age to the end of the Second World War. Its collections include archaeological and numismatic holdings, documents and weapons, as well as evidence of material and spiritual culture. The broad time span and variety of collections offer several ways to explore the area’s history, rather than limiting the focus to a single period or type of object.

Events and Educational Programs

The museum halls also host cultural events, meetings with artists and folk-art masters, and handicraft workshops. The visitor experience therefore goes beyond the historical collections to include opportunities for exchange and handicraft-related topics.

The museum offers educational programs for children. These include lessons about the Oressa region and the lives of its earlier inhabitants, as well as the “Call Sign Zyslov” project for older students. The programs therefore also vary by audience and subject: alongside learning about earlier ways of life, older students have a dedicated project.

Straw, Pottery and Weaving

A former synagogue dating from the late 19th century now houses a handicraft school and an arts and crafts shop. Locally made straw products and pottery are available there. If you are planning a specific visit, check in advance whether it is currently possible to visit.

A branch of the Museum of Traditional Handicrafts and Trades displays local handicraft products and has a working loom. The two handicraft venues have different focuses: the former synagogue centers on straw products and pottery, while the branch showcases traditional trades and the loom.

The Arboretum as a Nature Attraction

The town arboretum is considered a natural monument, features rare tree species and is a recreational spot near the built-up area. It therefore offers a different focus from the museum and handicraft venues. Check its current condition and access before visiting.

More Cultural Attractions in the Wider Minsk Region Destination

In the wider Minsk Region destination, Dudutki is a museum of Belarusian rural culture where many national handicrafts are demonstrated live. Visitors can also sample cheese made directly at the local cheese dairy; availability may vary. This offers a different focus from the handicraft themes in Lyuban.

The architectural history of Niasvizh is also part of the wider Minsk Region destination. The town hall was built in 1596, ten years after Magdeburg rights were granted to the town. The Corpus Christi Church was built from 1587 to 1593 to a design by the architect Giovanni Maria Bernardoni, commissioned by Nikolai Christopher “the Orphan” Radziwill. These historic buildings offer a distinct architectural perspective alongside Lyuban’s museum, handicrafts and nature.
