Maladzyechna offers several distinct themes for a culture-focused stay: regional history and nature at the local history museum, the origins of the Belarusian Song and Poetry Festival, and archaeological, architectural and commemorative sites. Keeping these themes separate makes it easier to tailor your stay to your interests, whether exhibitions, architectural history or music.

Regional History and Nature at the Local History Museum

The permanent exhibition “History of Minsk Region from Early Times to the Beginning of the 20th Century” is the centrepiece of the Maladzyechna Regional Local History Museum. The exhibition covers 175 m² and includes around 2,000 exhibits. A second permanent exhibition, “Nature of Minsk Region,” has been on display since 2013. The two titles mark distinct approaches: one focuses on history up to the beginning of the 20th century, the other on the region’s natural environment. The museum also offers the “Museum Tour” guide, which allows visitors to explore regional history in the exhibitions independently. Check whether the guide is available before your visit.

Belarusian Song and Poetry

The National Festival of Belarusian Song and Poetry was conceived in Maladzyechna to promote Belarusian culture, particularly contemporary Belarusian poetry and music. In 2026, the 25th edition, “Maladziečna-2026,” opened there. The 25th edition demonstrates the festival’s recurring nature. It was designed as a platform where young artists could perform Belarusian songs without playback.

Archaeology and Architectural History

Maladzyechna Zamchyshcha is considered the city’s most important archaeological monument and is included on Belarus’s list of historical and cultural heritage values. Today, only earthworks and fragments of foundations remain at the Zamchyshcha. The “Molodechno Region (1 Route)” itinerary includes the Zamchyshcha as a place to visit.

Another building of note is the former monastery and teachers’ seminary, a monument of Late Baroque architecture. The Maladzyechna Teachers’ Seminary, the first pedagogical educational institution in Belarus, was founded in the former monastery building in 1864. The site thus links an architectural classification with a precisely dated chapter in the history of education.

Remembrance and City History

The Stalag-342 memorial complex takes the form of a stylised concrete barrack. It contains the remains of 33,150 people who were tortured and died in the “Stalag-342” concentration camp.

The history of the railway station also spans different periods. Rail service reached Maladzyechna in 1873, with the opening of the railway connections between Minsk and Vilnius. The present-day station was built in 1907 and is considered a characteristic example of Art Nouveau architecture. The first trains and the current station building thus represent two different dates in the city’s history.

The Church of the Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God is located at 1 Staroe Mesto Street in Maladzyechna, Minsk Region.
