Kammer offers two ways to plan your visit: the Gustav Klimt theme and the history of Kammer Castle. There are also two walking routes and a cycle tour with clearly specified distances. When planning, you can give culture and outdoor activities separate consideration rather than trying to squeeze everything into a single day’s itinerary.

Klimt culture and garden

The Klimt Centre opened in Kammer-Schörfling on 14 July 2012 and presents a new exhibition each year. The Klimt Garden is considered the world’s first Gustav Klimt garden. It covers around 100 square metres; square flowerbeds, a water lily pond and rose hedges define its design. This offers two distinct ways to explore the Klimt theme: an exhibition that changes each year and a garden with clearly identifiable design features.

Kammer Castle and its history

Kammer Castle in Schörfling am Attersee is a moated castle dating back to the 12th century. It was originally built on an island; today it stands on a peninsula, after a direct connection to the mainland was created by filling in the water. The date and the history of its location provide different points of reference: the 12th century places the castle in time, while its change from an island to a peninsula describes a later change in its location. Those interested in how places have changed over time can learn not only about the age of the building but also about how its position in the landscape has changed.

Walking routes and cycle tour

The Gustav Klimt Theme Trail is 1.1 kilometres long and runs from the Gustav Klimt Centre in Schörfling to Villa Paulick in Seewalchen. Kammer is one of the places featured in the context of Gustav Klimt’s former summer residences; the walk follows the promenades in Schörfling and Seewalchen. The Ager Mill Trail is 4.3 kilometres long, is rated very easy, and starts at the Ager Bridge near Kammer-Schörfling railway station. Comparing the distances directly, the theme trail is shorter; the Ager Mill Trail is rated very easy. You can therefore distinguish between the two walking routes by their length and also take the stated difficulty level into account for one of them.

The Schörfling-Hongar cycle tour is a 27.5-kilometre mountain bike loop starting and finishing at Kammer-Schörfling railway station. Unlike the walking routes, it is a circular route. The options therefore differ both in how you travel and in distance: the cycle tour is an alternative to the shorter walks.

Getting here and practical information

Kammer-Schörfling railway station can be reached from Attnang-Puchheim or Vöcklabruck on the Kammer Railway. As the mountain bike loop starts and ends at this station, it is a shared reference point for both rail travel and the circular route. Kammer-Agerbrücke stop can be reached by bus. As transport connections may change, check the latest train and bus services before travelling.

Parking for the Attersee boat service landing stage in Kammer is available at the Kammer car park and in Seepark Kammer. Check the current parking situation before travelling.

When looking for a holiday apartment in Kammer, use your main holiday interest as a first filter: decide whether cultural history or outdoor activities will play a greater role in your stay. Then plan your outings according to their theme and distance, allowing time for travel and breaks. This keeps your itinerary manageable rather than cramming all the cultural sights and tours into one day.
