Taiskirchen im Innkreis is situated in the Innviertel, an area characterised by hills and forests. Visitors to the town will find a variety of highlights: a consecration dating back to 1455, local crosses and an old oak tree, as well as named running and hiking trails, a viewpoint, a ski lift and a place to swim. The attractions range from local history and landscapes to outdoor activities and time by the water.
Church, crosses and their history
Taiskirchen Parish Church was consecrated on 12 May 1455 by Auxiliary Bishop Sigismund of Passau. In Kainzing, the Kainzinger Chapel was placed under heritage protection by decree pursuant to Section 3. The Gumpinger Cross is about five metres high and depicts Christ and Mary. It was erected in 1875 after both farms in Gumping had burned down. The Weather Cross was built in 1869 following severe thunderstorms and storms.
The historical details differ: for the parish church, the exact consecration date is the focus; for the two crosses, it is their origins. Chronologically, the 1455 consecration predates the erection of the Weather Cross in 1869 and the Gumpinger Cross in 1875. This connects specific years with different local histories.
Hilly, wooded landscapes
Near Paulusberg stands the “Sepperl Oak,” which is more than 500 years old. Its circumference at chest height is 5.70 metres. Its age and circumference describe the tree from two perspectives: the age places it in time, while the measurement indicates its size at a precisely specified point. Those interested in natural landmarks as well as churches and crosses will find a named point of interest in the oak.
Trails, viewpoints and route options
The Granatzweg in Taiskirchen follows paved hiking paths and meadow trails. From Kapuzinerbankerl, a viewpoint along the route, up to 30 church towers and communities can be seen in clear weather. If you are mainly interested in the distant views, bear in mind that visibility depends on conditions on the day of your visit. Trail conditions can change; check them before setting out.
The Fit-Treff running route is in the Hoaberholz, also known as the blueberry forest, between Steinboden and Taiskirchen. It is 150 metres from the football pitch and offers two route lengths: 2.5 and 3.8 kilometres. The Taiskirchen cycling and hiking trail is about 33 kilometres long. This means there are two shorter running routes alongside a much longer cycling and hiking trail. When planning, you can start by choosing the distance that suits you.
Ski lift and swimming
The ski lift on Kinzenberg is just behind the church and is 200 metres long. The Altmannsdorf retention basin offers the opportunity to swim. The ski lift and swimming spot add two more leisure options to the selection of trails and viewpoints.
When planning your overnight stay, you can first decide what you would like to focus on: local history, views, route length or swimming. This makes it easier to find a holiday apartment based on the experiences that matter to you in Taiskirchen.
