Neuhofen im Innkreis combines rural green spaces with a local history that can be traced through its parish church and chapels. The parish church’s high altar dates from 1660 and came to Neuhofen in 1740 as a gift from Andrichsfurth. At the same time, the many green spaces invite visitors to experience nature on foot or by bike. This gives visitors planning a trip two distinct areas of focus: the town’s historical traces and activities in the surrounding countryside.

Rural character and cycle paths in the wider area

Neuhofen im Innkreis lies south of Ried and has a rural character. The green spaces give nature experiences a concrete place in the description of the town; walks and cycling tours are among the activities mentioned. Visitors planning their stay around their own interests can combine this perspective with the historical themes, without reducing the town to a single attraction.

For cyclists, the view extends beyond Neuhofen. A municipal website dated 16 July 2021 mentions the cycle paths throughout the wider urban region: they are signposted in both directions and connected to one another; in total, the network covers 110 kilometres. This distance refers to the urban region, not to a single route in Neuhofen. As regional infrastructure can change, it is advisable to check the current route before planning a specific tour.

Parish history and historical landmarks

The town’s history includes several distinct points in time. The area around Neuhofen was first settled by Bavarians around 550 AD. Neuhofen became an independent parish in 1785. The high altar in the parish church, however, dates from 1660 and did not come to Neuhofen as a gift from Andrichsfurth until 1740. Its date and its later transfer therefore tell of two different stages: the altar’s creation and its journey to its present location.

The chapels also add to this history in different ways. The Baier Chapel was half destroyed in a car accident, then demolished and rebuilt a few metres away from the road. Here, destruction and reconstruction are the central themes. The Ramersberger Chapel has different historical markers: it was built in 1908 and extensively renovated in 2018. Its construction and renovation dates place its history in time, while the story of the Baier Chapel is shaped by a later change and its reconstruction.

Another local account tells of Johann Augustin and his wife Anna. Grateful that their son Johann had returned safely from the Second World War and captivity, they decided to build a chapel in place of the wayside cross. Unlike the construction and renovation dates mentioned above, the focus here is on the couple’s decision and their reason for making it. Local stories thus range from dated buildings to a decision connected with a personal story.

Recurring events

Recurring events also provide a sense of timing for a visit. The traditional Neuhofen Advent event takes place on 7 December in the parish church of Neuhofen. The spring concert is held at Gasthaus Sternbauer; its usual date is two weeks before Easter. The two events therefore differ both in season and in venue. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these dates, check the latest event announcement.

When choosing a time to travel, visitors can consider various interests side by side: the history of the parish church, the stories of the chapels, recurring events and the green spaces that invite visitors to experience nature on foot or by bike. The information about the regional cycle network adds a wider perspective to these local themes; it describes the urban region and is based on the municipal website from July 2021.
