Prambachkirchen combines hiking with architectural and local history: two trails offer different time commitments, while the parish church, Dachsberg Castle and the Lourdes Grotto add further points of interest. Other attractions include the Dachsberg Climate House, a weather-dependent outdoor pool, and handcrafted organic delicacies made from herbs and fruit grown on the farm. When planning, it’s worth first deciding how much time you’d like to spend hiking.

Hiking trails with different time commitments

The Stallberger Höhenweg Trail No. 80 is 16 kilometres long, with a stated duration of 5.5 hours. It offers views across parts of the Eferding Basin and as far as the Dachstein Mountains. The Diabsteig Trail No. 81 covers four kilometres and has a stated duration of one hour; it passes a typical sand extraction area. The distance and duration distinguish the two trails in the same way: the Höhenweg is the longer option and takes more time, while the Diabsteig is the more compact hike. The landscapes also offer contrasting highlights: views on the Höhenweg and the sand extraction area on the Diabsteig. For planning your day, you can first decide how much time you have, then choose the trail that best suits your interests.

Parish Church, Castle and Lourdes Grotto

Prambachkirchen Parish Church is a simple Gothic building dating from 1524. After the chapel was completed in 1973, part of the parish church’s old high altar was installed there. Dachsberg was first mentioned in a document in 1215 as “Dachsperch”. Dachsberg Castle was rebuilt by Rudolf Schifer after a fire in 1672. The Dachsberg Lourdes Grotto lies in a wood below the castle. The dates mark different historical milestones: the first documented mention of Dachsberg, the construction of the church and the reconstruction of the castle after the fire. This takes you from the history of the name through to the history of construction and rebuilding.

Climate, Culture and Seasonal Activities

The Dachsberg Climate House is a place for learning and gathering, with a broad focus on climate. It welcomes school classes of all types from the region and beyond, and also hosts cultural events. If you’re interested in a particular event, check the date in advance.

Prambachkirchen outdoor pool is open from May to early September, depending on the weather. Check that it is open before planning a day of swimming. Unlike choosing between the hiking trails, this option depends not only on your schedule but also on the weather.

Handcrafted Organic Delicacies

The Sallmannsberg Herb Workshop handcrafts fine organic delicacies using herbs and fruit grown on its own farm. It combines farm-grown ingredients with traditional craftsmanship, offering a culinary highlight alongside hiking and local history.
