A two-hour circular hiking trail in Zellberg leads to the Herz-Jesu Chapel and back down into the valley through the forest, along the Eugenpromenade and past the Josefs Chapel. At the Talbach Waterfall, you’ll find several other clearly distinct attractions: the Talbach via ferrata, a field archery course and a section of the Zellberg Loop. These specific waypoints can help you identify different highlights for your stay.

Hiking and Chapels as Waypoints

The circular hiking trail: Zellberg is a two-hour experience hike to the Herz-Jesu Chapel. Along the way, there are activity stations for children and adults. The return route passes through dense forest along the Eugenpromenade to the Josefs Chapel and the starting point in the valley. This means that two chapels feature on the route, but in different roles: the Herz-Jesu Chapel is the destination, while the Josefs Chapel is on the return route. The Herz-Jesu Chapel was built around 1891; the Josefs Chapel is one of Zellberg’s notable chapels. Check the current route description before setting out, as route details may be updated by the operator.

Talbach Waterfall: Trails and Activities

To reach the Talbach Waterfall, head from the Ziller Bridge along the Zillerpromenade and ZellbergstraĂźe to the second hairpin bend. Another access route follows a forest path near the house at Zellberg 110. The Talbach via ferrata is right next to the waterfall. There is also a 3D archery course at the waterfall. This field archery facility covers a 1.5-hectare park, where 30 to 40 two- and three-dimensional animal figures are spread across the grounds.

The Zellberg Loop also passes through a scenic section near the waterfall, with very steep steps. The details to consider when choosing a route differ considerably: the circular hiking trail is defined by its two-hour duration, activity stations and return route; the Zellberg Loop, described as a cycling route, is notable for its steep section. These named features make it possible to distinguish between the two routes.

Local History and the High Alpine Road

The chapel landscape also includes the Chapel of the Sorrowful Mother Mary on the High Alpine Road. The Herz-Jesu Chapel was built around 1891, and the Josefs Chapel is one of Zellberg’s notable chapels. The chapels and the Zellberg Buam reveal different sides of the area’s cultural identity: on the one hand are named buildings, and on the other, a music group with local roots. The three Zellberg Buam brothers come from Zellberg and first performed in 1981.

The Zillertal High Alpine Road offers a different kind of experience from the local trails. Its summit route crosses the upper part of the Zellberg municipal area and reaches an altitude of 2,020 metres. It can be accessed from Zell-Zellberg. If you’re planning to drive the High Alpine Road, these details can complement the local routes in your selection: the road offers a distinct connection to the upper municipal area, while the circular hiking trail and Zellberg Loop are described by their respective route features.
