Wiesing lies at an altitude of 568 metres in the Inn Valley at the foot of the Rofan mountains. The village offers a wide range of highlights to help you choose your destination: the history of the parish church, a church and chapel trail, a family-friendly cycling route and winter routes.

Nature and Hiking in the Rofan Mountains

Astenau Alpe is a popular, easy hiking destination in the Rofan region. Rare, protected alpine flowers grow on its lush mountain pastures, including naked-stemmed globe flowers and gentians. Chamois, roe deer and red deer also live there. The alpine pasture therefore brings together two specific aspects of nature: special plants in the meadows and native wildlife. If you pay attention to flora and fauna while hiking, you will find more here than just a landscape name.

Church and Church Trail

Around the year 1000, Wiesing already had a small church dedicated to Saint Vitus. Construction of the new church began in 1777 and was completed within four years. Prince-Bishop Josef Count von Spaur of Brixen solemnly consecrated it on 17 July 1781. The Baroque high altar features a painting of a saint by Franz Anton Zeiller dating from 1779. The Gothic tower with its tall pointed spire was also incorporated into the present-day church. The historical details therefore span everything from its early dedication to an 18th-century work of art.

The Wiesing Church and Chapel Trail adds a specific route to the church’s history. Route variant 4 leads from Wiesing Parish Church via the Felderer Chapel to the Holy Trinity Chapel in Stanglegg. No walking time or route length is given here for this variant, so do not plan based on an estimated duration. Trail conditions may vary. The guide to the Church and Chapel Trail can be picked up at the Wiesing Information Office or requested from the Achensee Tourism Association. Check in advance whether these options are available.

Combine Cycling and Train Travel

The family-friendly Zillertal Cycle Path runs from Wiesing to Mayrhofen and is 36.4 kilometres long in total. You can combine the ride with the Zillertal Railway, which runs between Jenbach and Mayrhofen. Rental bikes from ZVB AG are carried free of charge on the train, subject to space being available. If you want to use this connection, check the current timetable and the conditions for taking a bike on board before you travel.

An e-bike option is also available in Wiesing: external guests can rent e-bikes on site at Camping Inntal or book them through the Achensee Tourism Association’s Achensee Experience Shop. This is a specific option for guests who do not want to bring their own cycling equipment; route selection and the train connection remain separate planning decisions.

Winter Routes: Downhill Run or Loop

The Breitlahn toboggan run descends for around three kilometres from Eben to Wiesing in the valley and is generally well suited to families. You can take the public bus back to the starting point from the Wiesing Abzweigung Stanglegg stop. Winter conditions and operations may vary; if you plan to combine the toboggan run with a bus ride, check the timetable and service information in advance.

The W1 Buchbergl trail in Wiesing offers a different route: this easy cross-country skiing loop is suitable for beginners, heads towards Jenbach as far as just before the HTL school, and then returns to the starting point. While the toboggan run descends from Eben to Wiesing, the ski trail is described as a loop. The winter options therefore differ not only in activity, but also in their route layout. Snow conditions may vary.
