Langesthei offers two distinct starting points for planning your stay: the Parish Church of St. Jerome and the moderately difficult K.15 Pezinerspitze hike. The hike starts and ends at the church and leads to Langesthei Alpine Pasture. When planning, you can decide whether to focus mainly on the historical details, the mountain hike, or both.

Church and Protected Cultural Sites

From the outside, the Parish Church of St. Jerome is a simple Baroque building with a pointed church tower. It was built on the site of a chapel between 1694 and 1696. On September 9, 1698, the church was consecrated by the then Prince-Bishop Khuen of Brixen; a chaplaincy was also established at the same time. The frescoes were painted by Leopold Puellacher of Telfs in 1823. The construction phase, consecration, and artistic decoration therefore belong to different moments in the church’s history.

Stockach Wayside Chapel and Langesthei Cemetery are also protected as historic monuments by decree. The corresponding monument register entries are dated May 28, 2024. The chapel and cemetery add two distinct protected sites to the historical landmarks associated with the parish church.

K.15 Pezinerspitze Hike

The K.15 Pezinerspitze is a moderately difficult out-and-back hike to Pezinerspitze. The start and finish are at Langesthei Church. From there, the route first heads 300 meters east to AuĂźerlangesthei. Trail No. 34 then passes through forest and mountain meadows to Langesthei Alpine Pasture, which lies along the way to Pezinerspitze. The alpine pasture offers a view into the Paznaun valley basin.

Langesthei Alpine Pasture is not operated as a restaurant. Do not plan to stop for refreshments there, and check conditions before setting out. In connection with the K.15, Langesthei Church is listed as a stop for the hiking bus. As hiking bus services may be seasonal, check the timetable for your travel dates.

Chapel Trail 6 and Choosing Your Focus

Another route passes Stockach Wayside Chapel and then continues to Langesthei Church: Chapel Trail 6. This gives you two different route options to compare. The K.15 is a moderately difficult out-and-back hike to Pezinerspitze; Chapel Trail 6 connects the chapel in Stockach with the church along its route. If you are mainly interested in church history, this trail offers a different focus from the mountain hike.

When looking for accommodation in Langesthei, you can first decide whether the historical sites or the hike to Pezinerspitze will shape your stay. The route details can help you define your planned focus. For a day of hiking, the unstaffed alpine pasture and the hiking bus timetable, which should be checked for seasonal service, are also relevant planning points.
