Wildbad Einöd offers several different reasons to visit: its thermal spa, a Roman bathing complex, a nature reserve and clearly described hiking trails. Depending on your interests, you can make thermal waters, history or outdoor activity the focus of your trip.

Thermal Waters and the Thermal Spa

The Wildbad thermal spa is the oldest in Styria. Its thermal and medicinal water rises from five springs at around 25 °C and is used for baths and drinking cures. This makes the spa a distinct reason to visit, clearly different from the hikes also described here: the focus here is on water and treatments, while the hikes are about routes and activity. If thermal waters are what draws you, this feature is an obvious focus for your time in Wildbad Einöd.

Nature Reserve in the Neumarkt Pass Landscape

The 1 ha “Krainer Tollkraut Site” plant protection area at Wildbad-Einöd lies near Dürnstein in Styria, at an elevation of 740 m in the Neumarkt Pass landscape. The nature reserve is part of the Olsa floodplain. The area is described more precisely by its size, elevation and landscape setting. Its name refers to the Krainer Tollkraut plant; the reserve’s designation and its inclusion in the Olsa floodplain also place it within a broader landscape context. For nature enthusiasts, both a named plant and the landscape to which the area belongs are therefore part of the picture.

An Archaeological Connection to Bathing

A Roman bathing complex was identified through geophysical investigations east of the Olsa in Wildbad Einöd. The subject of bathing thus appears in two different historical contexts: the thermal spa and the Roman complex. For visitors interested in the area’s history as well as its thermal spa, the archaeological find offers a distinct cultural perspective.

Hiking: Circular Route and Stage

The approximately 18 km Wildbad Einöd circular hike starts in Wildbad Einöd, goes via Pöllau bei St. Marein and returns to Wildbad Einöd. It is therefore a circular route with a named stop along the way and an approximate total distance. Some sections run through extensive forest areas, away from roads open to traffic.

Another route is Via Natura Stage 07. It leads from Wildbad Einöd along a forest and forestry road to Hopfgartenteich. Sure-footedness is required on the section from St. Veit in der Gegend towards the Wildbad thermal spa. As conditions can vary seasonally and routes may change, check the current route and conditions before setting off.

When choosing between the two hiking options, the difference in tour format can help: the circular hike gives an approximate total distance and returns to Wildbad Einöd; the Via Natura stage has Hopfgartenteich as its destination. Consider whether a circular route returning to the starting point or a stage with a named destination matters more to you.
