The Kaindorf–Frauenalpe mountain bike route starts at the Murradweg R2 near Kaindorf and heads south towards the Frauenalpe. After about 900 metres, the paved section ends at “Schaffer in Greith”; a forest road begins there. This early change in surface is a practical point to consider when planning your ride. Check the trail conditions and signage before setting off.
Cycling routes to different destinations
From the Murauer Hütte, the route continues along a forest track to the summit of the Frauenalpe. For the return to Murau, you can choose between two alternatives from the hut: the Bernhard Fest Trail or the Frauenalpenstraße. Check the seasonal availability of these return routes. The onward ride to the summit and the return to Murau are separate sections of the tour; for the return, you can choose between the two options from the hut.
The Leonhardsweg descends from the Frauenalpe via Kaindorf and then follows the Murradweg to Stadl an der Mur. Compared with the Kaindorf–Frauenalpe route, the main difference is the direction: that route heads south from the Murradweg towards the Frauenalpe, while the Leonhardsweg runs from the Frauenalpe via Kaindorf to Stadl. The destinations also differ: the return options for the mountain bike route lead to Murau, while the Leonhardsweg continues to Stadl an der Mur.
Hiking, a bridge and other activities
The Kirchsteigweg circular hiking trail passes through the Kaindorf district. As a circular trail, it differs from routes with a named destination such as Murau or Stadl an der Mur. The Kaindorf Bridge is 35 metres long and freely accessible at all times until the end of December 2026. Alongside the routes, this provides a specific structure and its accessibility as separate points of reference.
The alpakahaus.at petting zoo is located in Woody Park and at the alpakahaus.at ranch in Kaindorf-Süd. It offers a dedicated outing for visitors interested in alpacas. This makes it different from the cycling routes and circular hiking trail: the focus here is on an animal-related visit.
At Kaindorf-Süd 76, mountain and ski guide Erwin Purgstaller offers guided ski tours. The range extends from gentle grassy slopes to steep high-alpine tours. This variety highlights the different tour profiles available within the guided programme. Ski touring therefore offers a distinct activity alongside the cycling and hiking trails.
Plan your stay around your main activity
If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Kaindorf-Süd, your planned activity can help guide your choice of accommodation. The routes described differ in their courses: there are return options to Murau, a route that continues to Stadl an der Mur, and a circular hiking trail through Kaindorf. Guided ski tours and the petting zoo add other activities to these route options. This allows you to choose the focus of your trip based on specific activities, rather than planning different routes as one combined tour.
